still looking for faster way to get to Laredo from Tepic...HAS ANYONE driven the Mazatlan-Durango highway lately...its an extra 4 hours or more driving South to gdl from Tpic then going back N to SLP-Saltillo-etc...I suppose everyone would know if the new highway is finished...if the road from Lagos
to SLP is ready tht will save a little..dont know if I have the guts to drive it if its not official yet...wonder about Federale & Military presence on it???

The cuota up from Mazatlan to Durango is not finished/open yet... at least not the part that everyone is waiting for, the part that replaces the Devil's Backbone 2-lane. Maybe this year, 'tho.

The little stretch of (horrible) 2-lane just north of Lagos de Moreno is still the 'official' way to travel. But, as you probably already know, there is a new road that runs along side of it. It's been more-or-less finished for at least a year but inexplicably not opened.... lacks entry/exit points and sometimes has a pile of dirt where exits are to be. Part of it is officially opened.

Having said that about the Lagos road, someone just last week posted that it is 'open'. What that means is that he used it in it's entirety and had no trouble. I passed along the old road about a month ago and locals appeared to be using it 'with care'. I just didn't know if one could exit it OK after once getting on it. This guy said, 'yes'. Buses and trucks are still using the old road.

The cuota from around Villa de Arriaga eastward to the connection with highway 57 just south of the bypass of SLP is definitely open and a nice road.
