Nuevo Laredo to Oaxaca

We're planning to drive the Laredo - Oaxaca route this week, toll roads for as much as we can. Plan to overnight around San Luis Potosi, then straight south and onto the completed Arco Norte bypass, which deposits us just west of Puebla. (Any info on no-tell-motels or any other safe, lockup hotels in the SLP area?) From there south on to Oaxaca, overnight in the city and straight down the mountain to the coast next day. Haven't driven this specific route so any words of wisdom would be appreciated. PLUS anyone wanting to caravan along would more than welcome- little bit of safety in numbers!

In San Luis Potosi there are many hotels in Zona Hoteleria that have security. There is no big problem here with crime, so to speak. Just try a hotel on route 57, sign says to Queretaro/Mexico anywhere close to Las Puentes, which is the freeway you will be on with all the overpasses and the turnoff is close to El Centro. 57 takes a 90 degree turn left heading south there. They go on for about 3 klms. then suddenly end. From that point a few further out are no tell motels. Good luck.
