Choosing To Be Buried/cremated In Mexico

Jeez what a tough subject to discuss. But I suppose at my age and level of health I ought to figure out if it seems best or not.

I have a dearth of even distant relatives in the USA and I don't especially feel compelled to have whatever remains of me shipped north. It would be more pragmatic to just let the chips fall where they may unless it would cause unforeseen problems.

OK, so one morning I don't wake up. Mexican friends find my corpse. What then? What happens to the USA car? What happens to possessions? Do the cops or whatever really get hard nosed about disbursement of personal property? What about my bank accounts, Mexican and USA?

I'm not sure where I will be when I die. What can I do now that would help to prevent this from becoming a nightmare for Mexican friends?

Are panteon plots purchased? Who does the maintenance? Would they dig up my coffin for maintenance fees in arrears? I remember what happened to las momias in Guanajuato. Is this practice universal throughout Mexico?

Damn. Now I feel like taking a valium and listening to some Bach.

This site has all the paperwork you need.

http://lakesideemergencyinfo.weebly.com/

You can also fill out the Lake Chapala Society cremation information and LCS will see to it your instructions are followed.

From another site:

"The fee is 300 pesos - 250 pesos is for the notario/translation of documents. 50 pesos is for LCS who then maintains these records."

I knew an American who owned a condo and a car in Rosarito Beach. He lived alone and owned lots of musical instruments. I knew him because we worked for the same steamboat company based in New Orleans. He died suddenly in his room on the boat in the middle of the Mississippi River. I can't imagine what problems his family had in the aftermath.
