IMSS Electronic Cards

I just heard that there are now electronic IMSS cards available, showing you're a member. You first have to go to the local IMSS clinic to make an appointment to get a card, and then you go that day and receive the card the same day. I have not done it yet but will report back after I complete the process, hopefully in the next few weeks.

This is old news here in Guanajuato--I've had my card for 2 years. So far, they seem to serve no purpose, but the director of the IMSS hospital here in Irapúato told me that eventually they will be required to recieve any service/treatment. The card is not involved in the renewal process at this time. But who knows...?

I just did my renewal last month and there was nothing to do about the electronic card....I was told that you would not have to bring in your book if you had the card if you need care.
Has anyone used their services with only the card?

I was just wondering if indeed the card worked as advertised. Glad to hear that it works as proposed....I haven't needed to use it - thank goodness!
