how to keep your license tab from getting stolen

I was complaining about getting my '2003' tab stolen a couple of weeks back. A guy in Tijuana who specializes in such things told me the trick to keeping your tab: after the new tab is affixed to the license plate, use an exacto knife or single edge razor blade and slice the tab in half up and down then again left and right. Once a thief discovers that its gonna come off in four pieces he will leave it alone.
