Zetas gang killed rivals, escaped at Mexico prison

It is this kind of stuff, I believe, that contributes most to NOB impressions of Mexico....

And for what reason should this be "Breaking News" for the Denver Post?
Besides, of course, the fact that Mexico is the whipping post for the USA. Why not report that PAN and PRI are at odds and not passing any bills in congress?

Probably because we have had our fill of that NOB for far too long. We just call them by a different name.... Democrats and Republicans!

P.S. whynotwrite..... "Breaking News" is just a portion of the online Denver Post where they put news that has come out since the paper was published the night before. I wouldn't read much more to it than that (but do agree that the NOB press generally has a field day with most things negative about Mexico). I do think, 'tho, that news of "Top Officials and guards" assisting prisoners in their escape after a deadly massacre of rival cartel members is interesting and alarming reading.

Because no one NOB would have any idea what PAN and PRI are?

Once while visiting my mother back in the States, I had a depressing exchange with a pleasant clerk at the local branch of the USPS. Upon looking at the package I had given to her which I was mailing to myself in Mexico, she kept insisting that I was sending it to New Mexico. I had the hardest time getting her to understand that, no, the destination was a foreign country called Mexico! Luckily, she finally got my point and the package eventually showed up in my AP in Mexico City.

Right. No one in the USA cares (or knows) about anything but what the media tells them to care about. They have been told to be outraged about the drug war in Mexico, they have been fed horror stories almost on a daily basis by the media. As one person from Canada said to me 2 years ago, "All this (the media´s drug war) is a distraction so the people of the USA do not think about how bad things really are in their country"

You really believe that? I can tell you I know and regularly talk to hundreds of people per month (just active in an active club) and none of them are thinking about Mexico at all. And that's in a city that's a third Hispanic. I'd say that 90% of Americans don't give a rat's pitooey about Mexico so if it's intended as a "distraction" it's a pretty ineffective and useless one.

That is my experience as well. The only folks who I know give more than a passing thought to Mexico are the immigrants from that country that I am assisting in practicing their English skills through the public library program in Austin. They maintain contact with their families there and, frankly, I give their opinions about safety and other societal issues more credence that what I read in the US press or, MexConnect for that matter.

Prison riots and inmates killing other inmates isn't very shocking even in the USA. The mass murder of over 50 middle-aged Mexican women at a bingo parlor in well-to-do Monterrey, however, did get a lot of attention but those victims are now long forgotten except by those who were close to them. They were someones' mothers and grandmothers and not just statistics.

There are prison riots and inmates killing other inmates in the USA but I can't recall any incidents since the infamous Attica riot in 1971 where dozens of inmates were killed, or any at all where dozens escaped or the guards were allegedly supporting it.

Explain to me Houston boy, what your post has to do with what I wrote. You, once again have lost me in the smog. And just because you said "hello" to a hundred people does not mean you talked to them.

That was the most spectacular in sheer numbers but there have been others of considerable notoriety. I was charged with investigating and preparing a court report for one of the San Quentin Six. The case involved George Jackson and others attempting to breakout from the adjustment center with a gun smuggled in by an attorney. The inmate told me that it was a setup by the guards and the attorney, Steven Bingham was a patsy. I didn't believe his story but, subsequently, a jury did and the lawyer was aquitted of bringing the pistol to Jackson. I guess I still have skepticism about who are the bad guys. The crooks, the government or both.

I care about the irrational mindset of internet posters who make wild generalizations based on scant rumors and unifromed opinions. How do you arrive at the absurd notion that media controls the the thought process of every citizen of the US, or even a significant number? I care about the absurd statement that "things are really bad" in the US. I also care about the mindset of US politicians who use the plight of Mexicans to further their agendas, left or right.

Sorry, I was talking to Houston boy....but since you butted in..... You do not care to accept the fact that life as you remember will never be the same in the USA never, ever again. Too bad, you need to spend some time understanding world economies and world opinoins and how the USA is being left behind...except for their arms sales..
Blaming the problem on the politicians is the easy way, how about blaming the people who voted them in, who can not spend a 10 minute peroid a day following anything but sports or hollywood, or the highschool senoirs who can not read beyond an 8th grade level.

The USA still is the largest manufacturer in the world, Americans still have the highest standards of living, on average have the largest homes in the world, have the most personal affluence and most personal possessions, and use more energy and resources per person in the world.**

These facts leave me wondering how the US is being left when using common measurements.

If you had children, where would you advise them to live?

**These things are not how I personally measure a good life - but peace-of-mind, healthy body, healthy mind, and healthy spirit are difficult to measure or quantify in populations.
