What the heck is going on?

Can't Post | Private Reply
As I write this at 2:30 on Saturday afternoon, we are now at 37.5 hours of a continual drizzle, with no sun. The soccer field in front of my place is now flooded. Been here full time for seven years and have never seen anything like this. Any thoughts as to what is causing this strange weather and when we might see sunshine again? fug
P.S. Yes, I am well aware that the rain is good for Lake Chapala.

Global Warming ;>)

I am currently in the Yucatan. I has been raining here, some almost every day, for 2 weeks. The locals say, 'this is September weather, but never in February!' But at least it's not 59 F degrees!!!

A couple of years or so ago, we had 8 inches of rain in February - maybe the OP has blocked that from his memory bank.

I do not think so and my "meory" is not failing and neither is my spelling. Yes, I know. Cheap shot, but could not "reist". fug

Please give me a source for your info. No way in the world have we ever had 8 inches of rain in February. Never. Cite your source and I will pay you 500 pesos. Ridiculous. Bet I will not hear from you again. fug

Actually, I was about to correct it to 7" in our location - we have neighbors with a weather recorder. Check Lake Chapala weather and you'll see for Riberas in 2010 that station recorded nearly 6 inches in February and over half an inch in January:

http://www.chapalaweather.net/

Ajijic received more rain in that period - your memory is definitely failing - but we all block out unpleasant things.

It is not up to me to verify your misleading information. It is up to you to verify it. We just went from 8 inches to 7 inches to maybe 6 inches. Think you just lost 500 pesos, and I am not even buying into the six inches. Your wife told me that it was not true, she thinks it is three or four inches. Not sure, but for your sake, hope she was talking about rainfall. Have a great day. fug

I know who bournemouth is and s/he is correct. If you were to go to http://chapalaweather.net/ you would see that in Riberas del Pilar they had almost 5.7 inches of rain in Feb. 2010. My rain gauge, here in upper Ajijic read even more. I don't remember how much but it was over 6 or 7 inches.

Now in your defense fug, I have been measuring the amount of energy my photo-voltaic solar panels generate each day since March 2008. Today has been the worst day so far, maybe 16% of what I would expect on an ideal sunny day with no haze, or 20% of what I would expect on a normal partially hazy day at this time of the year.

I know the Chapala Weather site states 5.67" in February 2010 but I don't remember that much rain either. Different parts of the lake can get very different amounts of rain. The site is recording 2.02" for the last two days and someone else with a rain gauge farther West has recorded almost 4" for the last two days.

It looks like we have several more days of rain ahead of us.

Feb 2010 was a very wet month on the coast and I'm sure you got some of it in the Chapala area. We had over 8 inches on the coast.

Actually I was in Jocotepec then and documented it in my Blog

chinagringo - Thanks for the accurate info. We didn't remember having this much rain in the 10 years we've been here either. I guess a senior moment and we're all disgusted with this weather. The reason johannson is recording much more than Riberas is because West Ajijic usually gets more rain than Ajijic or Riberas.

Folks, this rain in winter is called Las Cabanuelos.

I do not know how much rain we had exactly in 2010 but I came back early February to Ajijic and I know It was extremely wet, we took a trup to Df and it was even worst, it was cold wet and windy, I remember thinking it was the worst weather we had in 10 years but I think we had another episode of very wet and cloudy period a few years before as well.
I have to say I have never seen the pool so high, it is ready to overflow. after two days and one night of non stop rain.
Fug I know bournmouth and he/ she does not make up things.

You can ask my house guests who stayed with us in February of 2010. We all froze. And it lasted for a very long time. Our driveway washed out that winter. It was extremely unpleasant. I could post the photos if you like. Maybe that would convince you. That was our third winter at our home at the lake and we were NOT impressed. This winter we were unable to spend it at the lake, and we are having a lovely mild winter here in BC. I must say that 10C is much better served with central heating.

I live near Bournemouth in Ajijic. We had almost 7 inches of rainfall in February of 2010. The lake has many microclimates so every area has slightly different weather. For the last 3 days my system recoreded 2.48 inches of rainfall. Lake Chapala Weather net recoreded 2.35. Very similar.

I remember 2010 very well. A journalist from San Miguel and her partner arrived to check out this area and include her impressions in her newest book on moving to Mexico. The rain was nonstop; it was cold and miserable. She took shelter at the Lake Chapala Society and "interviewed" the folks hanging out there. When the chapter on this area came out, it appears that we are a very conservative place of mostly very elderly retired military people. I haven't stopped laughing since..........so yes, it was raining, and raining. My bird bath overflowed.
Hey.......the sun is shining on the wall. I'm heading out there to get my Vitamin D fix!

Pete, thanks for your response. I think we are comparing apples to oranges. My post was regarding total consecutive hours of rain, close to 48 hours. The responses were regarding total inches of rain in a month. Think we are all right, just were posting on different topics. fug
