Finally made it!!!!!!!

Well, I finally made it to Mexico. I entered through Eagle Pass and I had a 2.5 hour delay there. Not because of them, but because my children had toooo many games with them and they had to figure out what I had to pay. I then paid the $90.00 (us) and was off. The ride was pretty smooth. There was one problem that I encountered in Monclova. I saw some military beside the road and they were looking like they were ready for something. I then drove another few miles and I saw that there were 20 or more Federal Police and military at a Pemex store and they waved us on through in a "you better get the heck out of the way" kind of wave. I am sure it was a random kind of thing and as I was raised in New Orleans, I thought very little about it. I am not sure what was going on but they were definately about to do something. I didn't stop to find out. Other than that, we had no problems and what I expected and what I encountered were two different things. The military did a good job of patrolling and I am sure that helps a lot. I just wanted to let everyone know that it was a safe trip. Thanks again for everyone's advice as to where to enter. All the advice was much appreciated.

I visit Monclova every couple of months and it has similar problems to Nuevo Laredo except on a much smaller scale. Encounters between the military/PF and the Zetas happen occasionally and you may have seen one forming.

In Nuevo Laredo it is of course reassuring to know the military is there (PF less so). But at the same time most residents caution level rises when they encounter armed convoys on the streets. It is not too hard to tell when they are on routine patrol or whether they are responding to some situation. Seeing the latter can be very unsettling and a sign to head in the opposite direction. Glad your trip was uneventful.

They said the $90.00 was for the value of the games over what was authorized per person. They have the little ds and psp games in cases. The people said you can bring more than what is allowed but that you have to pay based on the value of the items.

The problem with those 'little games' is that they are made in China. Customs can and does charge as much as 500% duty on electronic games and toys made in China.
