Michoacán Warning modified by US government

In the US State Department's latest travel advisory, just issued yesterday, the warning about travel to Michoacán has been modified. Instead of a blanket warning about the entire state, the warning has been lifted as to the cities of Morelia and Lazaro Cárdenas.

As one who feels the government's travel warnings have been too broad, I welcome this change. Now many thousands of US government employees, who were prevented from coming here by the warning, can visit Michoacán. Speaking with regard to Morelia (as I don't really know the situation in Lazaro Cárdenas), I hope the travel web sites posting warnings about Morelia will soon modify those to reflect the new status. I also hope this will once again encourage tourism from the US and provide much needed help to the local economy. Plus, I will now be more able to convince nervous friends and relatives that it is safe to visit Morelia, which I have always felt is the case.
