How important is the memory card slot in GPS unit?
For future map updates, you will need a SanDisk or Kingston 4GB memory card.

Every year map updates for Canada, USA, and Mexico grow approx. 400MB
The typical GPS unit only has 2GB of internal memory.

The Garmin StreetPilot C series are some that don't have enough memory, so you will need to load maps by region
(Canada, USA or Mexico) or use BaseCamp software.

1. Download and install Garmin MapUpdater software
2. Select: Install Options
3. Choose the region you want to install

A. Full coverage of north America
B. US & Canada
C. Lower 49 states=Aprox 1.3GB USA only
D. East *
E. West *
F. Lower 49 states NE *
G. Lower 49 states NW *
H. Lower 49 States SE *
I. Lower 49 States SW*
J. Southern US & Mexico *
K. Canada + Border states *

* These files are approx 900MB, most GPS units can hold these maps.

Example
The Garmin StreePilot C330 has only 1GB of usable internal memory, 2GB SD card slot.
This GPS unit can not hold all of North America because there is too much data now.

Can I use TomTom map zones on Mexico map? NO
This is not yet available for Canada, USA, and Mexico.

Map Zones
The size of our maps increases all the time as we add detail, such as new roads. We add more detail to make the maps more accurate and more useful.

You may find that when you buy a new map or update an existing map, the map you have chosen does not fit on your navigation device. To solve this, HOME can offer you smaller sections of some maps, called map zones. A map zone contains the same level of details as a complete map.

When you buy or update a map, you may be able to choose a map zone using TomTom HOME. This happens if you cannot fit a complete map on your navigation device.

Misleading satnavs (GPS) have caused more than £200 million worth of damage to cars in the past 12 months, it was revealed today.

As many as 83% of satnav users have been misled by their system, a survey by Confused.com found.
Accidents caused by drivers going the wrong way have led to damage totalling £203 million in the past year, the poll also showed. Of those led astray, 52% ended up screaming at their devices, while 68% have ended up doing longer journeys and clocking up unnecessary miles.

The poll of 2,000 drivers also revealed that women were more likely than men to get angry with their satnav, with drivers in the East Midlands exhibiting the most rage.
