A friend and I will be in Guadalajara Monday,Tuesday and Wed. next week. Does anyone know of anything happening in town then?
Also we'll be spending wed. night in Tonala to be ready for the tianguis thursday mornng. Any recommendations of restaurants nearby to the Hacienda del Sol hotel?
Thanks!

From our experience dining in Tonala, we would probably suggest El Rincon del Sol. They are located at: 16 de Septiembre No.61 Zona Centro which would be about a two block walk from your hotel.

Don't know that this is the best site, but it does list some events. Go into the "Tenemos Plan" -> "events"-> dates, etc.

Thank you both! El Rincon del Sol sounds great. Since I'm traveling with a friend who has never been to the area, and we've never traveled together I'm happy to have a solid recommendation.
And thanks for the events link as well.

Absolutely correct! I cannot claim to be an expert, but a friend who ate with us one day ordered them and declared them some of the best they have ever had.

Tonala is such a great experience and it is a shame that there are not more quality restaurants to choose from.

We have never arranged the luxury of staying overnight in Tonalá, so haven't had the opportunity to catch the plaza action after dark. It is on the "bucket list". We did spend two consecutive days there back in January and one was a Thursday Market Day. For those who haven't stumbled across them, a couple of Tonala websites:
Tonala: http://www.tonala.com.mx/portal/index.php
Tianguis Tonala: http://translate.google.com/...om%2Fini%2Findex.php

We sure must have hit it the wrong day of the week or something when we stayed in Tonala last time. Figuring the plaza was where the action would be in the evening, we were extremely disappointed. Nothing, and I mean nothing was going on. Hardly any places to eat, it was not at all what we were hoping for.
The reason I asked about restaurants is that the town certainly seemed to roll up the sidewalks after dark.

We have stayed at Hacienda del Sol and dined at El Rincon del Sol.

I recommend both - I believe they may be jointly owned. The hotel did recommend the restaurant to us.

Good food, nice ambience.

We just got back. We stayed at the San Francisco Plaza Hotel in centro Guadalajara, and the Hacienda del Sol in Tonala. Bith were fine.
We did eat at Rincon del Sol, twice actually. The manager or owner of the restaurant seems to know how to run a tourist-oriented business. We enjoyed it.
