And this year there is a best Margarita contest as well! Feb. 10, 11, & 12

They put up three different banners at Tobolandia and all have been stolen so spread the word! This benefits many lakeside charities.

With all proceeds going to local charities, for three days, professionals and home cooks compete for the title of People's Choice Winner in three categories. On Friday, both professional and home cooks compete in the Salsa Competition and Margarita tasting. Saturday brings Home Cooks with their favorite Chili Recipes, and Sunday pits Restaurant Chefs against one another for the Best Chili.

And the best news is they're not holding it in that God-awful parking lot this year. They say it's going to be inside Tobolandia. (Think shaded areas.)

This year's Mexican National Chili Cook-Off will have some very special entertainment.

Los Voladores de Papantla from Veracruz (the flying revolving indigenous group from Veracruz) will be preforming daily during this charity fund-raiser. They will appear on Friday, February 10th at 1:20pm, twice on Saturday, February 11th, at 11:30 and 1:15 and once on Sunday, February 12th at 1-pm. Here is a youtube link to their performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTLhiYeNLs0

The voladores, or" flyers", dress in brilliantly colored traditional costumes, climb up a 150 foot pole, tie their ankles to ropes wound around the pole and them jump off, "flying" gracefully around and around as the ropes unwind until they reach the ground. As the voladores "fly", another performer balances at the top of the pole and plays haunting tunes on his wooden flute.

The world famous Anasticio Jacinto Group, are Totonac Indians and the voladores rite is a traditional act of worship. An ancient spiritual offering in the form of a spectacular dance.

This is just part of the non-stop live entertainment at this year's chili cook-off in Ajijic.
