Another case of mankind polluting the oceans and people somewhere else paying the penalty. Have you seen the reports of the Japanese Tsunami reaching the west coast way ahead of projections? They are now speculating that 100 million tons could reach the coast within the first year:

That's a bit of a push. Probably more the fault of the tsunami which is what the article is about

Makes for great beach-combing. Back in the day we would comb the PNW beaches for glass fishing floats from Japan until they started using plastic and foam

Maybe poorly worded as I wasn't trying to say that the Japanese Tsunami refuse was intentional polluting. More the point, the oceans move this crap around and others can pay the penalty.

I think the point is that the more rubbish we have in our society the more likely we are to end up polluting our environment, intentionally or not. We can all do a little better without a lot of inconvenience.

The TX beaches were often littered with bottles like one in the pic, it was said they were bleach bottles from MXN shrimpers as well as motor oil bottles. True or not, it's sad. One interesting study is the ongoing one about yellow rubber duckies. 20 years ago a shipping container broke off and broke up and dumped thousands into the ocean. They started tracking them to see where they'd go, of course they go all over the world, just like the smoke from burning MXN fields ends up in TX and TX pollution ends up in LA etc., seems you can run, but you can't hide.
