Seguro Popular, part three

Can't Post | Private Reply
Just talked to my cleaning lady and my gardener and they have zero health insurance for their families. They do not know even know what Seguro Popular is. I need some major help here to get these folks covered. I will see that it is done, but do not know where to go or what to do so. fug

Take them to the closest Seguro Popular office and get them signed up. I think it's 90 days after they are signed up to produce any needed documents they might not have had with them when they signed up. It's the same for you also.

Oh, fug. Try going to an answer that was supplied in your previous thread.

This isn't your first membership on MexConnect, is it?

My apologies to you. You went to a lot of effort to provide the information that I asked. Thank you very much. Now, I just need to do it. fug

Slowly, I am getting my act together. What do Mexican Nationals need to take, and what does a foreigner need to take to apply? I thought covereage occurred in 30 daays, but I will happily settle for 90 days and so will they. Thank you. fug

Why do you want to get health coverage for yout gardener and maid? It is NOT required and no one I know does it.

They can buy their own IMSS.

Seguro Popular/General Hospital costs less than IMSS and is often better.
in my town. the General is much better than the IMSS.

You are signed up right away with no waiting period.

The 90 days is the time you have to produce documents you might not have produced when you signed up.

You have 90 days after signing up to give Seguro Popular any missing documents but you are covered during that time.

Another reason they will be easier to deal with than IMSS.

This is about Seguro Popular, not IMSS. The maid and gardener will probably not be charged for SP insurance. I also don't think working individuals can buy their own IMSS coverage. I think an employer must pay for it.

Why sign them up? Because it is a decent thing to do and it doesn't cost you anything.

Thanks for the clarification. As you know, I thought there was a 30 day waiting period before covereage took effect. This is looking better and better all the time. fug

You might be right, there could be a 30 day waiting period but I don't recall. I do remember that from a person who joined and explained his experiences, he wrote that one has 90 days to produce any documents that are needed during which time he was still covered.
