Does anyone know the approximate driving time from Puerto Vallarta South to Lazaro Cardenas assuming normal speeds of say 50?
I realize that their will be many conditions along the way that would change, but what I am looking for is an approximate time?

By the maps that I have, the number of miles look like 397 at 50mph= 7.95 hours but that is a pretty windy road South from here and who knows what the road conditions are.

Mapquest confirms that the distance is about as you say. Their estimate of travel time is 11.5 hours. In the past I have found their Mexico travel estimate to be on the high side. That road, as you say, has some significant curvey sections, is entirely two-lane (except for a few kilometers around Manzanillo) and I'll bet has one million topes.

I think I'd plan on closer to the 11.5 hours than the 7.95 that you got by using a 50mph average.

Disclaimer: I have driven the PV to Colima portion of Mex-200 (and about 100km down south from Tecoman) but have never driven on down to Playa Azul or Lazaro Cardenas.

Using the site that chicois8 provided above, the distance is 615km and the drive-time is 7:56. Toll of 109pesos.

At this point it may be appropriate to use a pun...... "YMMV"

Took me about 9 hours from Playa Azul to Melaque but with some stops for fotos. Melaque to Vallarta usually takes me 3.5

There is major road construction south from Puerto Vallarta to El Tuito, a short distance (normally about 1 hour or so from Puerto Vallarta south) which is expected to continue for several more months. People have reported major delays at certain, and unfortunately, unpredictable times. Not much you can do except be prepared.

Thanks to all of you.
And your right about the highway construction South of Vallarta we run into it every day going and coming to town.
But hay we have been waiting for that road to be improved for 42 years, and thank every day that it is finally being done.

We travel the area south of Puerto Vallarta several times each week. The "major" delays are on the order of 10 to 15 minutes. There are no delays on the weekends and evenings. Hwy 200 from PV to Boca de Tomatlan has always been bumpy. From Boca to El Tuito, the road is decent. From Tuito south, the road has been recently repaved.

Donemry: I´m not sure why why you felt the need to put major in quotes. I never said the delays were major, only that there was major road construction on that stretch at the moment. But, in any case, thanks for the update.

The Government has a website called www.copufe.(just search Copufe in Google). It has all the drive times between all the cities in Mexico and all the current toll costs. I found it to be accurate on my recent 5500 road trip from Ensenada to Xalapa. It even estimates gas mileage(in liters of course).
