Anybody else notice this?

This is my 7th winter in Ajijic in the same place. Do not have cockroaches until December and January and then they are out in full force at night and I am out with a can of spray finding them when I get up at night for a pee call. Had a friend from the US come to visit and she called my cucarachas the size of Buicks. Actually they are only the size of a Mini-Cooper. Any ideas? I plug everything that I can and have funigation done every two months. fug

Go to a hardware store or the Agro Quimico place on the Libramiento and ask for the gel you put in the drains.

Gel you put in drains? Have any idea what it is called? After a couple of showers will it not wash away with the hot water? I cannot put the rubber covers over my shower drains due to their placement in a tight corner of my shower, but know for sure that those little creeps are crawling in through our septic tank. Thanks, David. fug

OK fug here you go, pretty simple and it should work for you.

Get a square plastic container of some sort (margarine, potato salad, etc,) of a size that will fit in the corner of your shower. Get a small container of talc and talc the outside & inside of the square container (liberally) with the talc, place over your drain in the shower and take a tube of clear silicone and silicone (a gasket if you will) inside and outside the container. Place over the drain for a few hours until the silicone is dry. The talc, if you put enough on, will keep the silicone from sticking to the square plastic container and can be used over and over as a "cap" over your corner shower drain, fitting neatly into the silicone gasket that you made. Depending upon how large your roaches are, you might wish to add a little weight on the top of the container, such as a mid size smooth round rock or a cement block for the "Buick" size roaches. It really does work.
