Looking for a bit of insight into your online life in Mexico

Can't Post | Private Reply
Hello everyone, I don't wish to intrude so I'll keep this brief. I'm currently conducting a bit of research into the online habits of US expats living in Mexico. Reading the threads has been very enlightening about life in general but I've not found a lot about what online services and websites you use.

Would anyone be willing to give up 5 or so minutes of their time for a conversation on the subject?

Please message me directly if you are interested and I'd be delighted to answer any questions you might have (and I hope you can do the same for me!).

Thanks for reading,

Joel

P.S. I have a few bottles of some rather nice single malt scotch on my desk that I'd gladly send as a thank you.

Hysterical post. Think we need some more info from Jo about his project. Right now he is just a troll. We may be old, but we are not stupid. fug

Hi Jo, How about more transparency in your request. Why do you want this info? What are you working on and how to we verify it? Think you are going to get very little info from your original post and your ridiculous and insulting offer of a bottle of Scotch, which you cannot even do. I smell a troll, kids. fug

I spoke with JoProfero today by telephone. Just a little market research, that's all. Yes, it's for a for-profit enterprise, I assume. Totally unintrusive. No big deal unless you consider that sort of thing intrinsically evil.

AND, who knows, maybe a bottle of Scotch will slip through customs. Ha!

I don't mind saying that I am on the internet from 6:30 in the morning until about 1PM. Without the internet, I would have had to move back to the old country. I was really hit hard by the recession. The Internet has allowed me to continue the business I had back in the States before I came to Mexico. People don't know your in Mexico unless you tell them. I would tell you what I do, but I don't want anybody else trying to copy me and then losing all their change when they fail. No need to send me any Whiskey. Offering Whiskey will get the attention of 96.8% of the expats living here in Mexico, especially around the 23rd of the month when the liquor money runs kind of low. That's all the research you need to make an accurate evaluation.

80% of the cost of hard liquor sales of local brands, goes to taxes in one form or another. The US thinks there are 1 million US citizens living in Mexico(according the the State Department website). Let's say its 250,000. That's nearly 250,000 Liters a day purchased by the American Community. That's way over a Million dollars a day in taxes. And that doesn't even count the cross border sales from American day tourists. If we really wanted to flex our strength, we would just stop buying Liquor and the Gov would soon feel the pinch. Yeah, that's going to happen.LOL.

Hello fug,

As I indicated in my first message I'm very happy to answer questions if people want to message me directly. I'm delighted to say that thus far the conversations I've had have been very friendly and most helpful.

Kind regards,

Jo

I do not wish to contact you directly, as you are the one that wants information, not me. I would be happy to have you contact me and let's see where it goes. Still have no idea of what the hell this is all about and that is what I asked you. Still zero transparency. fug

There may be a typo in the post above by "tashby", whiskey/scotch will likely not "SLIP" through Mex aduana/customs, but will probably "SIP" through some customs agents.

I just got off the phone with Joel. He asked me to send my phone numbe and a convenient time to call. He called when he said he would and we had a nice conversation. Took maybe 15 minutes, an none of the questions were difficult, very personal, or intrusive. He seems like a nice guy.
No Scotch needed.

Same here, except we talked for 27 minutes -- I'm a chatter box.
We talked computer-to-computer with Skype. Works great.

I have not talked to him, but just received a very nice private message from him explaining that the reason he did not respond to me was that he does not work on weekends. Did not even occur to me that I had written to him on a weekend. DUH! Very nice note and my apologies to him for being so suspicious. I invited him to contact me. fug

Spent 20 very pleasant minutes with Joel this morning. He called exactly at the appointed time and his questions were non-invasive and easy to answer. I suggest that anyone who is interested in being part of his survery to contact him. It was fun. Never had a call from the UK before. He has a VERY British accent and I had to listen closely or ask him to repeat. No problem. fug
