Car sticker refund

Can't Post | Private Reply
On Friday, December 30, I returned my Temporary Import Permit (car sticker) for my mini-van at the Puente Colombia crossing, about 20 miles north of N. Laredo. I used the drive-up kiosk and never left my vehicle.
Looking at old credit card records, I had paid total of US$258.39, withdrawn from credit card, which included all fees and deposits. On-line service was fast, with my Permit arriving the next day, by Fed Ex. All Temporary Import Permits must be returned at the border and CAN NOT be returned on-line or at the Mexican Consulates in the USA.
On Monday, Jan.2, my credit card account was credited with $206.46. The difference was the total cost of the permit, including all fees and currency fluctuations.
Of course, getting Permit in person, at the border, would have eliminated some fees, like Fed Ex.

Well, that's certainly encouraging, I wouldn't have taken that chance. I held out $300 USD when I came down last time just in case I was charged and no way I would have given them my CC, but it's a great new years sign of hopefully, better things to come.

I just had a private email, requesting more info about what papers they wanted. Here is what I wrote:
Hola, They did not ask for the credit card, nor other travel permits or personal papers. When I drove-up to the kiosk, they asked for the sheet that had the car sticker that had been peeled off. That was all. They took a photo of the sticker, still on the car windshield, plus two extreme close-up photos of the vehicle ID numbers inside of door and windshield. Then, they asked me to peel-off the sticker from the windshield. (Correction!) They handed me a receipt for auto permit, but not for the credit card refund. That was all. Feliz viaje, David

This is a similar procedure when I exit at Piedras Negras.... one never has to leave the vehicle and it takes about 2 minutes.

This is the first year that I have charged the deposit to a credit card and I'm curious.... normally when one leaves one gets a 'receipt' signifying the return of the TIP when leaving. I always have this receipt with me the next time I enter in case there is a problem. You stated "They handed me a receipt from the credit card refund." Did they give you 2 receipts (one for the TIP and one for the credit card refund) or does the one receipt you mentioned somehow cover both transactions?

My mistake! While I was given only one receipt from Banjercito and it looked like a credit card paper tape, upon further inspection, it has nothing about my credit card and is only about the TIP. Neither my CC number, nor the amount was on the receipt given to me. Correcting my statement, I was not given a receipt for the credit card refund, nor was there a CC receipt with the sticker, in the original Fed Ex package. Thanks for noticing that!
