Mexican Prescriptions filled in the US

I take some medicines that are cheaper in the US than here in Mexico. So, once a year when I visit the states, I go to a US doctor and have him/her write the prescriptions for a year's supply and fill them at Wal-Mart.

I have a good doctor here in Morelia who could write the prescriptions, and if a US pharmacy like Wal-Mart or Costco would fill them, I would save the cost of a US doctor's visit. Has anyone had any experience with filling prescriptions written by a Mexican doctor at a US pharmacy?

If a doctor is not licensed to practice in the state where you want to fill the prescription, the prescription cannot be filled.

You can present the prescription to a Wal-Mart clerk and see if the clerk notices it is not written by a local doctor. Of course when it is noticed that a prescription that was written by an unlicensed doctor was filled the poor clerk will probably be fired.

Thanks for the info. I would not want to violate the law, so I won't be trying to get it past a clerk. I think for now, we will be going to the states once a year.
