New Immigration Rules for Mexico to Start Jan. 2, 2012

There are reports from INM offices around Mexico that the New INM Law will begin implementation on Jan 2. 2012. There are even reports that INM staff have been attending special training sessions on the new Reglamentos this past month. Hopefully, the training will pay-off, making a smooth transition.

Anyone care to start a pool on whether or not these new rules will got into effect Jan. 2nd everywhere in Mexico and be applied equally by each and every office?

Thanks for info YucaLandia. We are among the "lucky" (?) that get to go in on January 2nd to begin renewal (in Puerto Vallarta). Will report back. Let the fun begin.

I made a Costco run yesterday and of course the Tapatios were driving insanely like the world was going to end if they didn't get one car length further ahead in traffic. I just smiled, but also was thinking at the time, what a paradox, in a country where much is whenever and manana etc. they drive like they have a death wish.

FYI, I took some documents (birth and marriage certificates) into the Mexican Consulate here in Vancouver this morning to get them "legalized" prior to our move down in March and they knew nothing of any changes taking place next week. Guess they haven't got the memo yet.......

My No Inmigrante expires on the 5th of May and is a Prórroga 4. Now does this mean that I can apply for a Residente Permanente? From what I read on another forum, I have to do it within six month of expiration. Right?

Well from my experience, until something shows up in the Diario Oficial, its better not to speculate too much about what the content might be. IF I were them I would try to encourage through immigration reforms, a more skilled American to immigrate and create a few jobs. Maybe they could look into drunk driving convictions in the states before approving any new applicants. The US is expelling the undocumented in very high numbers because of drunk driving convictions. Mexico might retaliate. The Catholic PAN government might want more limits on the Puritans, maybe even crack down a little bit on them. They don't drink or create jobs. But on the other hand we are substantial taxpayers. I understand that nearly eighty percent of the retail cost of Mexican made Hard Liquor goes to taxes in one form or another. In Soriana's where there are few Americans, there is much less shelf space dedicated to Alcohol. And right now on New Years eve, there are 25% discounts on every hard liquor in the Soriana in Puebla, but not in Tijuana. Then again they just might postpone it all until the next government takes over. I don't think the immigration issue has a lot of priority. Not much gets done in the last year of the sexenio, unless it gets a few votes for the party in power. Nobody cares about this issue except the people that it applies to and they don't vote.
