TelMex DSL Internet

Just recently I've had problems connecting to certain web sites, hosted on U.S. servers. The browser simply times out an is unable to connect to the server. One example: www.groceriesforvacation.com.

It is a site I posted for a friend some time ago, it works perfectly from users in the States, GoDaddy is where it is hosted an all looks fine there too.

Anyone having similar experiences. I'm using TelMex's Infinitum Service here in Nayarit.

Anyone have any ideas of where one would report this sort of problem to TelMex?

The site is working fine from the States. GoDaddy (the host) confirms this, as have several friends.

Drivin' me nuts. Have never experienced something like this before.

Got connected quickly here in Xalapa, Veracruz.

Note that I am not using Telmex, but MegaRed cable.

Nope, timed out here at the Lake and can't ping it either and I'm on (supposedly) the best DNS server at Telmex.

I am currently in San Miguel and can access that site. I am using (whatever) cable service is provided local to SMA.

But I also have a similar situation..... I, from SMA, can seldom access my favorite NOB PBS radio station.... www.kunc.org It hangs on "accessing DNS server" (or something similar) and then the browser times out. Very rarely I can get through.

Sounds more like a DNS issue with your ISP - Telmex. I was unable to connect to the website using automatic detection of the Telmex DNS. When I switched to a VPN that uses another DNS I was able to connect.

The normal DNS that Telmex (and your computer is connected to is using ) is unable to find the site before it times out. The solutions would be to change the DNS used by your computer from auto detection to another DNS specified by you or to work with the web host to make sure the website is listed on the DNS servers used by Telmex.

I was able to get a cashed copy by entering the URL in the google search bar. The following went along with the cashed copy

This is Google's cache of http://groceriesforvacation.com/. It is a snapshot of the page as it appeared on 10 Dec 2011 11:54:03 GMT. The current page could have changed in the meantime.

Thanks for all the feedback. A neighbor here in Nayarit with the same experience of certain URLs not working has reported it to TelMex. We'll see.

OpenDNS, which is a great suggestion, didn't change things.

Though this doesn't really solve the problem with TelMex, here's the way around the problem for groceriesforvacation or other sites you may be having trouble accessing from Mexico:

The problem is at the website host server. I and others using GO Daddy had the same
problem years ago.The host IP guy had to fix the problem.

How'd you get past the "its not our problem" guy at GoDaddy? GoDaddy insists it ain't their fault!

(Not my choice of hosts... I use Mecca Hosting for my own sites.)

Update: As it turns out my friend's website hosted at GoDaddy now has a static IP (for an extra monthly charge!) and is now easily accessed from here.

After a four-hour phone call with GoDaddy which finally revealed that the site didn't have a static address and that was the problem all along.

Yep, that fixed it here at the lake. Odd, I have several sites at GoDaddy and I don't believe any have static IP's, but to the best of my knowledge all are accessible.
