Income inequality among working-age people in Mexico is the second highest in the OECD, after Chile, and well above the OECD average, despite falling since the mid-1990s. The average income of the top 10% of Mexicans in 2008 was 228,900 MXN, 26 times higher than that of the bottom 10%, who had an average income of 8,700 MXN. The ratio is 9 to 1 in a typical OECD country.
