. El Chapo Guzman, the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel and one of the world's richest men, is purportedly now doing his business not in Mexico but Central America. Upon reading the above article, I immediately remembered the lyrics to a Warren Zevon song ,one verse of which goes:

"Well I'm hiding in Honduras
I'm a desperate man
Send lawyers, guns and money
The S#*t has hit the fan"

If the Mexican government truly intends to hit the narcos in the pocketbook, it must needs have a significant impact on the economy and the way investments are made particularly in the real estate industry. Chapo's main partner, El Mayo Zambada, is the financial brain of the organization and he is talking about retirement. Chapo, on the other hand, will not go down easily as long as his support base sticks with him. I think these will be very interesting times for Mexico and its people. I am guessing that the conflict is entering a new stage, one in which there is less violence but where many people lose a whole lot of money.

We should be so lucky. Ever try to dig a hole in a pile of sand? It's not even close to over and won't be for some time. I totally appreciate and understand Mexico's sovereignty and macho stance, but often it's necessary to bring in outside help. In medical terms our bodies don't cure cancer, chemo is sometimes necessary and even then not always successful.

And, believe me, I understand how insane it is to bring in "help" from the country that is one of the main problems.

Ramifications are the ripple effect, I just got a note 5 minutes ago that two ladies who love this place and were looking forward to coming down in Jan, but now have canceled - yes, violence, or perceived violence and I tried to reason with them and get them to see you can't live in paranoia wherever - but, they've bailed.

Remember the old saying that goes: "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts"? The updated version is about Americans offering "support".
