Driving to Manzanillo

Hola Amigos,

We just drove down to Manzanillo from Montana. The trip was awesome. The border crossing was virtually effortless. The process of starting the FM3 is Seattle worked out well but as Rolly pointed out earlier, there is a few more steps to be completed once we reached Manzanillo. That process has begun and will be completed by December 6. A couple of points: Be sure to have your paperwork in order if you do as we did. 5 pictures are required at Aduona, 3 front view 2, right side view. Minimal amounts of screwing around. The car import has yet to be completed. As far as the trip down, minimal effects were encountered caused by the Hurricane but it was obvious that much damage had been done. We encountered an incredible amount of highway work from Guaymas south especially on the Cuota, someday soon this will be an even better trip. All the roads into Manzanillo are either repaired or repairs are well underway. Expect $127 worth of tolls from Nogales to Manzanillo. Internet and phones have been spotty but are up and running the last two days. Apparently, Melaque just had water restored in the last few days.

Why did Aduana (customs) require photos?

Glad to hear that the drive is good from Nogales to Manzanillo. We are going to do the same thing in December. We are driving with our two children and are a bit nervous about banditos/drug lords/carjacking, but are somewhat reassured by your good experience.
$127 in tolls is great information. Can you tell me how many hours the drive took and where you stopped (including names of hotels if they were clean and not too expensive)?

Thanks

We have driven that route more times than I care to think about & never with a problem....remember - drive during the daylight hours ONLY!!! Use common sense!!! Be sure to fill up in Culican because there are no stations until Mazatlan.
Here is a website that will give you distances and tolls....it's in Spanish but you should be able to figure it out even if you might not speak Spansish. Good luck!

Hola,

The drive was excellent, we stayed in Guaymas the first night and as I recall by the time we finished customs and immigration, maybe 5.5 hours to Guaymas and stayed at the Hotel de Cortez which was right on the beach. I recall $80 for a very nice room in a hotel built in 1939, just wonderful! When you get into to town from the north take the right to the playa and stay straight to the end of the road. The next stop was Mazatlan and very long day, maybe 9 or 10 hours. Stayed at the Holiday in on the strip, expensive but nice! The following day, very leisurely "get up" maybe departed about 1000 and arrived in Vida del Mar at 1900, we were intending to stay in Guadalajara but the Pan Am Games took up all the hotels. Great trip for us and I wish you the same! don't hesitate to write again! All the best
