John Mitchell of Eureka, CA murdered in Cabo San Lucas

Our friend John Mitchell saved his money for years so he could retire at about age 50 and move to Cabo San Lucas, where he would buy a business and semi-retire. He had made numerous trips there to scout locations, but was lured by a "sweet" deal, showed up at the business with the purchse money, and was murdered, along with a friend. John was fluent in Spanish but had brought a friend to translate. They were both killed and the money stolen. He had been there a week.

John Mitchell should have concluded any deals at a bank or some public place with security and cameras. (Most film is kept only 48 hours.) Anymore, it is best to dress in a way to blend in with locals. He had been in the city about one week. This happened in October or maybe September. Official information is hard to get so if anyone knows about this please post.

Also interested if similar incidents are occuring in Xalapa, Mazatlan, PV or other "safe" cities. Any solid information would be welcome. Please no third-hand info twice-removed! We in John's hometown want to know and understand what really happened.

Thank you,

It sounds to me that this person had found a DEAL too good to be true. No notario, no attorney, nothing said about permission from INM or other government agency. I am so sorry, but these things happen.
