We will be moving to Mexico in 2012 and will use a professional mover that specializes in moving people to Mexico. We have been told that all electronics must be listed with brand, description and serial number. We have read that one can bring a laptop computer into Mexico but not a desktop. Is this true ? Thanks Technically, desktops are not exempt from duty, unlike laptops. In reality, unless it is new, you are unlikely to get dinged. This is especially true if you bring it in with you when you drive over the border, along with your other luggage. When we came through, we got the red light and pulled over for inspection, They looked briefly at our papers, poked for a few seconds in our trunk, saw the desktop and said nothing. We got quickly waved through. Just make sure it is not in the original box, so it doesn't look like it is a new product you might be bringing in to sell. Buen viaje!
