bands traveling to mexico......

is anyone out there in a band that has traveled to mexico with a van and trailer full of musical equipment and merchandise (t-shirts and cd's) before? my band is planning on going there in january for a day and i need some help figuring things out.......

No one is answering your question, Trevor, so I will give it a try. I think you will get hassled over some of the stuff you are planning on taking in. Anything you think of as commercial (those nice new t-shirts with price tags on them for instance) the people at the border are likely to think of as commercial also, and they like (and are supposed) to charge charge you to bring these things in. If you are planning to play gigs in Mexico, this also may be a problem. I trael back and forth with my washtub base with no problems, and a guitar is all right too, but if you have that van full of amps and speakers I think you are going to have to talk pretty fast and probably have to come across with some loot, and if they think you are coming across for professional reasons, they aren't likely to let you do it on a tourist visa. Dont forget it depends where in Mexico you go. I understand that you can enter through Tijuana without getting a car permit nor going through other customs requirements because Baja is considered a free zone.

Call a US customshouse broker. They have contacts on the Mexican side and can provide information.
