If you wan t stunning you have to go to the east coast-Cancun, Playa del Carmen, etc.

There are several places in Mazatlán that do wonderful weddings, plus Mazatlán is a very family-oriented town. Check out Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay, just gorgeous. http://www.pueblobonitoemeraldbay.com/

"stunning environment"

Since everyone doesn't have the same tastes, why don't you describe what you or your son are thinking.
Is 'good airfare' to the beach are important?
If a 'several hours drive' from the airport is out, then a couple of remote beaches or islands may not work.
If 'mountains in the background' are important, then the Yucatan is out.

etc. etc.

My daughter got married on a beautiful beach behind the "Peñasco" in Cabo San Lucas in 2005. The only reasonable access to that beach for a wedding party (I mean the group of people, not an actual party) is through a private posh neighborhood and only a few of the wedding caterers in Cabo have access to it.

It was spectacular and the overall cost of the entire affair was way less than I had ever imagined.

Two years ago I attended the most spectacular wedding and wedding environment I have seen. The wedding party all checked into a hotel in Puerta Vallarta and the afternoon of the wedding, all boarded a boat and traveled 35 minutes or more across the bay to a secluded event location with no hiway access, no electicity but amazing tropical beauty. The location was on a hillside and leaving the boat we wondered along a torch lined trail over a hill and down to the beach, where the ceremony took place. A bar area sat above the site. The ceremony ended about the time it was getting dark and the group went back ovr the torch lit trails to a beautifully set banquet area with candle lit tables and a marlelous buffet dinner. After dinner, back over the hill to a bonfire on the beach and live music , dancing, and candle lit balloons lauched into the air. Shortly after middnight, the entire party wound its way back over the torch lit trails back to the boat and the return to Puerta Vallarta.
Sorry I can't tell you the names of the providers of the site but if you PM I can probably check with the mother of the bride and get you the info.
