Another Way the Mexican Feds Are Raising Money!

Last week my wife and I made our annual trek to the INM in Queretaro to get my FM2 renewal. we had done our homework and had the necessary papers from the Internet filled out, photos taken and went to the office the same as last year. We were handed a sheet of information that was required including the stated cost of the fee of $2801.00 MX Pesos. We dutifully went to the Banamex and paid the $2801.00 laughing all the way as the fee had gone up from $2800.00 by one peso! So we paid and got our receipt. Upon trying again on Wednesday to get my new FM2 we were informed that the fee was $2800.00 and not $2801.00. We would have to re deposit our correct amount of $2800.00 MX Pesos and we would be given a slip stamped by the INM so we could "Immediately" get a refund at another office of the original $2801.00 Pesos paid. We took the slip after yet another appearance and were given an address in Centro Historic District to go and get our refund. We went from the INM office and to this address and were informed that it was impossible to collect the original $2801 Pesos so fast and it would take 45 days to get such a refund! Boy was I ever pissed! They held our money hostage to get the interest, this was pretty clear. We also have to go onto the Internet to get some other paperwork to get our original funds back even thought the person at the Centro office told us the INM were making many, many such of the same errors this year! Even though we had the original slip that showed the printed $2801 as the fee for this year, we were still told we would have to follow the normal procedure to get the refund. Talk about being held captive by the Ba&%s!

So I can only tell you to be aware the fee is actually $2800.00 and not $2801.00. Figure how many people they have done that to and then make the interest off the $2801.00 while they still have it for 45 days! WOW! It pays to make a misprint! For Sure!

I agree Rolly,

I have even seen it here on MexConnect somewhere. I know a lot of folks have said the same thing ($2801.00MX Peso renewal fee), someone, somewhere is making one peso or more from interest from those of us in Queretaro who are having to wait. Near as I can figure out, they know there was a misprint on the information sheets and each different INM office is handling it their own way . . . . . . . I mean after all, we are in Mexico aren't we? . . . . . . . . where the only thing for sure . . . . . . . . is that nothing is for sure. (smiling)

We also paid 2801 each for 2 FM2s last February (2011) in Jalisco.

What I learned last year (2010) was that it´s best to do the best you can at getting started(Internet forms, pics) but check at your particular office. Almost always there is something different from what you expected the process to be. Anyway, that´s what our office always advises.

Boy this is really nuts! No wonder the country is loosing money hand over fist! Maybe Queretaro is the only state federal office still charging 1 Peso less than other states are charging for a federal fee on an FM 2! (smiling) I am really going to be pissed if they tell me when I go to collect my money in six weeks from their original mistake that they were wrong again and the real fee was the original $2801.00 MX Pesos! (LOL)

This is really beginning to tick me off! Just try getting your money back after the Immigration for FM 2 makes a mistake. First they tell you that it is no problem and to take this paper to another office with this stamp on it and that office will make arrangements for you to get your $2801 Pesos back without problem immediately . . . . . . . . Yeah Right! The office tells you that first you must get this form 32 from the computer and fill it out and submit it to the office. Then you must wait six weeks for your paper that will allow you to go to the bank and get this money, of course no interest is paid back on the amount of money they have so conveniently had for the past weeks of use. Then you go to the computer to get this form 323 and it is not possible to down load the form. You phone the Immigration Office and they tell you to go to a paperilla (sp) to buy the form and when you go to a half dozen of these places they all tell you, they do not have such a form. Now we are back to square one! In the mean time your six weeks waiting period has not started yet, as you have no form to submit! What a joke for something that seems might have been incorrect in the first place! What a mess . . . . . . does anyone know where e might get such a form 32 so that we can get our money back from Immigrante Office!!!!!!

I just submitted my file two days ago with payment form E5cinco and receipt for 2801, and the INM office in La Paz, Baja California Sur verified that it was correct. I also paid 2801 last year.

This page of the INM website
http://www.inm.gob.mx/index.php/page/D_S_M_O
gives the cost for Inmigrante renewal as 2800.852 or 2801 rounded (you have to go to page 2 after clicking on the above URL). Also, when filling out the online payment form E5cinco
http://www.inm.gob.mx/index.php/page/Derechos
it automatically rounds the cost to 2,801.****

It's a mystery why Queretero would insist on 2800, and even more of a mystery why they wouldn't simply pocket the extra peso.

**** i've used this form twice with no problem, but beware: Rolly reported a while back that one of his readers apparently made an error and ended up paying twice.

yes indeed . . . . . . . I also am "mistified" at these simple mysteries! I believe that I have lost my taste for any kind of mysteries at this point! (smiling) Why didn't they just pocket the one peso indeed. My answer to them as well. I cannot believe all this run around over one peso!

If you pay the Immigration fees at the bank, and something is wrong, and return to the same branch where you made the payment ON THE SAME BUSINESS DAY, they can immediately refund your erroneous payment when you present your original deposit slip to them.

Should you return to the bank on a different day, it's already been processed and you must then file for a refund through SAT. Yes, it will take probably 6 weeks for a refund.

Good Morning,

I kind of figured that one out but since you also live here in Queretaro, surely you can figure out it would be a little difficult to do ones banking in San Juan del Rio and then go to the Immigration office in Queretaro and then back again to San Juan del Rio to get the error corrected and then back again to the immigration office all in one day, especially with the traffic the way it is in the city of Queretaro on a Friday afternoon. How much did that office charge you for your renewal?

You can do one of two things:

Pay the fee in a nearby bank in Queretaro before going over to Migracion, or

Pay the fee in a San Juan del Rio bank, discover the error at Migracion in Queretaro, get back to San Juan del Rio before their 4:00pm closing time and get your refund that day, and then go back to Migracion the next day. The deposit doesn't need to be made on the same day you show up at Migracion, it just needs to be made.

Two years ago, I made the error of getting two receipts for two visas in my name, instead of one receipt in each name (hey, if I'm paying the money I want the receipt in my name, right?) WRONG :-)

That would work well, if we didn't have a late afternoon appointment and as you also said . . . . . . "The deposit doesn't need to be made on the same day you show up at Migracion, it just needs to be made." . . . . . . . We made the deposit the day before our appointment so we would have plenty of time. Sooooooooo there goes that theory!!! (smiling)

To me, Queretaro Federal Immigration Office just became a sandbox! A sandbox with nice people (immigration employees) playing in it, but a sandbox none the less, and we all know that the Mexican Federal Government Offices can easily screw up a sandbox . . . . . no matter how polite and nice the people playing in the sandbox are! (smiling)

We also paid 2801 pesos each in September in Nayarit.

Not a whole hell of a lot of interest, I grant you that, but multiplied by how many others and it starts to add up to a pretty good Christmas Party that I and the others whose money is being held hostage won't even get an invite to! It is extremely difficult for me to believe, that in all of Mexico that I am the only one this has happened to. At least the folks at the office in Queretaro Historic District office that grants the stamp on the federal government document form 32 told my wife and I . . . . . . . "there have been many such mistakes by the Immigration Department lately about this fee". "We have had very many!" I also do not think we are the only state this has happened in.

I really do feel for you. I'd be very frustrated if it happened to me. I haven't heard of anyone at the Bucerias, Nayarit or Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco office having this trouble. As a matter of fact, I've been trying to imagine my reaction if I got the paper from Immigration to take to the bank saying 2801 pesos, then 15 minutes later when I return with my receipt (and copies, of course) and they told me I had mis-paid.

I do sincerely doubt that the reason is to fund a Christmas party, though.
