No reflection intended on Mexican truckers trying to make a living but truckers in the US are going out of business trying to absorb the costs associated with multiple EPA mandates over the last 10 years - with few increase in rates to compensate for them. The 2010 mandate alone added $9000+ to the cost of a truck and regulations are strangling small operators. My understanding is trucks built in Mexico do not meet, nor are they required to meet, the same standards so the situation is really unfair. I have no use for theTeamsters or OOIDA for that matter, but I work with truckers every day. If they fight back, it has nothing to do with the Mexican truckers -- it has more to do with fighting for survival and an irresponsible govt selling them down the river.

HUH? Most North American rigs are built in Mexico: Freightliner, Freihof, Peterbuilt, Volvo -- they're the same trucks as the ones the U.S. and Canadian drivers operate.

Sorry, not true re emissions -- I work for a truck mfgr who builds in MX.

There are reports that US taxpayers are paying to retrofit some Mexican trucks entering the US. I don't know if this true but won't be surprised if it is

So, selling US truckers down the river still applies, IMHO.

The time to raise all of these issues passed many years ago when NAFTA was negotiated and passed by the Congress. The US has been playing bully and spoiled brat for far too long!

Just how long does Mexico have to tolerate the excuses, questions, objections and whatever new games the "anti forces" drag to the table? This is a two way street and US truckers can haul into Mexico but are now saying they are scared or worried by the insecurity. If I were a Mexican trucker, I would be concerned by the treatment I might receive NOB given the history of the special interest groups!

I do not disagree with you -- however, American working stiffs were not consulted or included in the political deals made in the 90's. Average people on both sides of the border have little say in what goes on. I'm not sure why you can't extend some of the sympathy you appear to have for the Mexican trucker to the American trucker -- we are not talking about large corporations or governments here or at least, I'm not

It's not all trucks, but the ones that traverse from Nogales, MX and Nogales, AZ. There is a tremendous pollution problem there and Mexico doesn't have pollution controls as we do. These are short haul trucks and not long haul ones. So far $80,000 usd.

That would have been the first instance that the Teamsters didn't have a hand in any decisions reached. After all their antics through the years, I have a hard time believing in much they are involved in. My comment wasn't about sympathy for the Mexican truckers but rather about the Mexican Government and people getting jacked around. One can do all they want to pick apart NAFTA from both sides of the fence but the fact remains this was a ratified and signed agreement just like the new trade agreements signed this week. Both parties are obligated to follow the terms without arbitrary timeouts. Take a look at the timber/lumber fiasco on the northern border.

Anyone who has been shipping pallets, partial trucks or full truck loads NOB, knows full well that the freight charges are punitive once the product crosses that border.

Well, some of us also have sympathy for paper-mill workers, nut growers, even Mary Kay Cosmetics salespeople... all of whom were the victims of the unilateral decision by the United States to ignore it's legal duties under the NAFTA agreement. The result of denying entry to Mexican trucks was a decision by the arbitrators to allow Mexico to slap protective tariffs on U.S. goods to make up for the lost revenue... which was put on a variety of U.S. products, hurting s lot more businesses and workers in the United States a lot more than are supposedly injured by letting Canadian, but not Mexican, drivers work cabotage routes.
