Back to the Yucatan

We are headed back to the Peninsula in two weeks.

We'll spend 4 nights in Merida, going to the IWC Halloween party and seeing some Hanal Pixan altars, but most of the trip will be a 60th birthday Caribbean beach vacation for me.

One week in Playa followed by a few nights in Mahahual and a day trip to Xcalak.

Looking forward to it.

I do not know if it is done but a few years ago the men from the various villages around would come and build tradtional houses and altars on the evening, night of the first on the plaza in Merida and the women came the next day in the morning to fix the special food for the day of the dead and everyone came to eat at the plaza around 11 am. It was quite fun. Each village has its own style of house and also has differnt types of food. Yhat is where I first had iguana and Xtanbetun liquor. It is a touristic event but quite fun.
