Shaw Direct problem

If you speak French or want HDTV, there are problems right now at Shaw (Star Choice). It seems that the newer Shaw Direct satellite Anik F-2 is not working at the moment. Time will tell whether or not the Satellite can be reactivated.

If not you will continue to see most of the English channels that you thought were in HD, in SD. I don't know about the French channels.

Everything started working again at about 11 PM that same day.

Has Shaw done anything with their 107.3W bird: Moving channels, adjusting their beams, etc trying to compensate for the loss of the 111W satellite?

I have an older less-than-tech-saavy friend who has been losing some of his normally-reliable 107.3 SD channels, with some completely lost, and others with spotty and erratic signal strengths. I assumed he had cable connector corrosion issues on the roof (where some transponder's frequencies are more affected than others), or that maybe the was a dish-aim or LNB-position issue, or that maybe there was some wobble in 107.3W. He has a 1.8m dish, set down in a well on the roof (protected from wind) , so there should be plenty of signal?

Are other viewers experiencing channel loss (or erratic signals Canadian Can"ESPN" = ch. 114?) ?

From the time shown on your post I think you were writing and posting, when I posted my message above that everything is back to normal, and that Anik F2 is again working normally.
