Please let me know what I posted that was so inflamatory that it was deleted after disagreeing with altahabana? is this an open forum for us who live and travel in Mexico?

I am sorry to contribute as I have lived here for 8 years and own 2 homes from my base in Sonora. Now I am exploring the south (Veracruz, Chiapas, Tabasco and soon Guatemala).

The only explanation I can come up with is that, while married to a Mexican national, I prefer to think of the good side of Mexico. regretfully this may be opposite of the intent of this forum.

If so, please be forthright and inform your viewers of this fact.

Regretfully Pata Salada. Which means Salty Feet (or legs). which again is the relationship between Guaymas and Hermosillo. Salty feet means fisherman.

While there are many of us who would really like to view the positive side of Mexico, the fact is that there are some real problems that one needs to accept in today's Mexico. When forum members post firsthand knowledge of incidents, they are providing an important service to those gathering information on which to base decisions. When other members go into denial because they have never experienced the same, are they not doing a disservice?

I happen to be a fanatic on gathering information and trying to make informed decisions. Back in August, we made a trip to Central Mexico and I made travel decisions based upon information gathered. Chose not to drive down as had been our normal procedure. Flew into GDL and did a 1888 mile trip in a rental car through Jalisco, Michoacan, and Guanajuato. Did we experience any problems? NO! But did incidents happen around us? YES! Just because it didn't happen to us doesn't mean that it cannot happen!

I understand that, Neil. If you read my original post you would know that I said there is real danger in Mexico as everywhere. There is no denial.

No need for tit-for-tat. Altahabana, Rick S, Don Gringo and the others offered sound advise. After acquiring information I decided that leaving from South Padre Island in the morning and taking the quickest way through Tamaulimpas was the choice I made.

Minerva will probably have a great trip no matter which way she chooses.

I agree 100% . . 70% because of the "good ol boy" club and 30% because the drug war, fear and loathing sell more clicks. I have been called a jerk, in a PM, by one of the moderators. That should tell you something about the people who are running the forum. Mexico is like a rose, beautiful and enjoyable in many way, sure there are some thorns, but who counts them?
