Troubles in the Lerdo Police Department

Can't Post | Private Reply
Sadly, my little Lerdo has joined many other cites with a problem police department. Yesterday, the federal police arrested our chief of police and 40 officers out of a force of 153. Charges have not been announced, but it's obvious it will be some form of corruption, probably not stealing apples from the mercado.

Our two sister cities have on-going security problems. Torreón's police department is still struggling to recover from the firing of 300+ officers a while back. Gómez Palacio is still blighted by the scandal at its state prison that landed the warden and three of her top officers in jail for corruption.

A couple of weeks ago the army arrested 11 municipal police officers here in Fortin de Las Flores, Veracruz, a city of 30 thousand, for extorsion and murder. Maybe, hopefully, things are going to change. Considering the depth of the corruption, it's going to take some time to clean this mess up. It may get worse, before it get's better.

A little more is now known about what happened in Lerdo. It seems the Feds received information that one of Lerdo's finest was dirty. They busted him, and he promptly rated out the rest of the group who were working with the Sinaloa cartel. The chief and the 40 others are now in México City being "debriefed."

It's interesting living on the border between Las Sinaloas and Los Zetas. The army seems to be doing a good job of keeping them apart. I hope it holds.

What the heck is going on in Veracruz??! I lived in Coatapec and in a small mountain town from 2009-2010. Absolutely no drug problems, and now it seems like Veracruz is on the news for one thing or another all the time now. Que paso?

The narcos have been in Veracruz for some time, but they worked below the radar. The past governor, Fidel Herrera, allowed the Zetas to pretty much take over the state, mostly the city of Veracruz. When they, the Zetas, started attacking the local population with a vengence, kidnappings, extorsions, drugs, murders, car jackings, corrupting police and politicans, etc., the federal government stepped in and started to do something about it. Thus the piles of dead criminales, probably Zetas. It has been very bad in Veracruz City, but the rest of the state is quite safe. Coatapec, Xico,Xalapa,Cordoba,Orizaba,Catemaco, are still excellent places to live.

In my Mexican City (Ensenada) I have really been trying to get a seat on the board that does the Police hiring. I insist that the problem is not corruption, but the problem is they continue to hire Police that are mentally retarded. Can't they tell? Can't they give them aptitude tests? Police need to be problem solvers. The Policia Federal de Caminos now has a standard that their officers have to have a least a high school education. I guess that's progress. I know all those guys at immigration just hate the local Municipal Police. And they are always telling me)a foreigner( how stupid they are. I am glad it's the State Police that investigates homicide. I guess I should just mind my own business.
