Certified cheques - cashier's cheque

My Mom needs to send either a certified cheque or a cashier's cheque to the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City to renew her passport. Is it possible to walk into a bank, without an account, or a place like MultiVa, and get one or the other? Last time I did something like this, it involved Lloyds, my Mom's account which had to be updated, and a visit with a Lloyd officer, totalling three trips.

Shoot, shoot, shoot I cannot remember which financial entity in Ajijic made a recent announcement that they would have cashiers checks available to client/customers and non-customer for just this purpose.

Maybe somebody out there will remember. Be assured there is a new easier way.

Banamex and Bancomer do it for US passport fees. The OP might check with the Consulate in Guadalajara to see if they have a similar arrangement with local banks.

Someone has mentioned that the money place at the Laguna mall on the libramiento does this, and may even become the "official" place to get it done here.
