Closest Aduana to GTO? - changed my FMM to No Imigrante(FM3) - need to preserve bond.

Can't Post | Private Reply
INM had no clue where to do this in San Miguel.
Is it true you have only 15day from the first date on my new FM3 to get this done?
Another loop is we have 2 bonds (car - wifes name & motorycle - my name) but her FM3 came first as she has the work pension $ funds and i'm a dependiente. Her FM3 had to come through first before they would process mine. Her's is dated 24th of aug. and mine is ready in SMA to pickup this monday.

Thanks.
Bill

There is an aduana office at every international airport.

Rolly has just posted that you notify Aduana before your current visa expires ... not after you get the new one. But since you probably didn't wait to the last minute with your FMM ... that kinda puts you somewhere between

i am almost 100% sure that you must send the following copies to aduana in mexico city!!!!! going to your local aduana is simply wasting your time.

i dhl my copies ....i found a spanish format for the letter.....i will try to find it again and post it..
  1. The car import sticker is valid as long as the holder’s Visa remains valid, regardless of the expiration date shown on the import sticker. FM3 period = Vehicle’s approved period.
  2. As long as you made your original deposit with a Credit Card, there is no requirement for the driver to go to a border crossing / car permit office to renew it, because it is automatically renewed when you renew your FM2 or FM3.
  3. You are required to notify the Mexican Customs office IF YOU MADE A CASH DEPOSIT TO REGISTER YOUR CAR or if you made a credit card deposit after June 11, 2011. This notification (including copies of the vehicle permit and copies of the renewed Visa) can be made in writing and sent to:

Administración General de Aduanas
Administración Central de Planeacion Aduanera
Av. Hidalgo No. 77, Modulo IV, primer piso
Col. Guerrero, Delegación Cuauhtemoc
Código Postal 06300, México, D.F.

here is the sample format i found on line, it came from rolly's hand book on mexico.

"Por medio de la presente me permito informarle a used que El Instituto Nacional de Migración de este país me ha concedido prorroga en mi calidad migratoria por el tiempo de __*__ días para permanecer en México, con vencimiento del día __**____.

[*= number of days of your FM3 renewal – usually 365]
[**= expiration date of your renewal]

Lo que estoy avisando a esta autoridad para los efectos del Articulo 106, fracción IV, inciso a de la Ley Aduanera, con respecto a la importación temporal de mi vehículo:

Marca:_____________________ [Make of car]
Modelo: ___________________ [Model of car]
No de serie_________________ [VIN]
Efectuada por la Aduana de _______________________ [where you got the permit]
Amparo del Permiso de Importación Temporal No. _______ [hologram number]
Fecha de Entrada del vehículo: _______________ [date of entry with vehicle]
Fecha de Vencimiento del Permiso: ___________ [expiration date of permit]

Para que pueda prolongarse el plazo del vehículo mientras dure mi calidad migratoria.

Atentamente,

[Your signature]
[Your name]"

The regulations clearly state that turning in your papers to an aduana office (or a Banjercito office) is the correct procedure. I will acknowledge that there may be some offices that are not prepared to handle the matter, but I would send the papers to the DF office only as a last resort. Entrusting time-sensitive papers to the care of the Mexican Postal Service does not fill me with confidence. If I had to send the papers to the DF office, I would use an express service rather than the post office.

If you imported your car before June 11, 2011 what are the reporting requirements when an FM2 is renewed?

We live in Ajijic and sent the letter to Aduana at GDL. They marked and dated it rec'd and returned a copy. A few days later we rec'd (by registered mail) a letter they sent to Aduana at Nogales where we got our Importada Temporal advising them that a) I had contacted them and 2) that my sticker was now valid until the expiration of my "No-inmigrante" card. I understand that one is supposed to notify aduana within 15 days of a change or update in immigration status. I did it in just under 30 and there was no issue. I carry copies of both letters in my car and keep the orginals in a safe place.

I would still like to hear from someone that has paid the deposit, renewed their FM3 and then crossed the border and got back the deposit. For those that do not return the border and send in the papers: Do you think that they will return the deposit a few years from now?

here's my followup to what happened.
we went to the Leon Intl airport with our No Imigrante - rentista cards before the 15 days of getting them.
the agent at the airport spoke great english. this was his 1st experience with this is this is brand new.
he said his airport office nor any of the others handle vehicle customs, only airplane bound things.
we needed to go to the gaunajuato state aduana offices.

...1 exit past the airport office towards leon. there is a big VW plant here too. get off the exit and look for the aduana signs. very easy to find. this should be IMPORTANT info for SMA residents! anyway you trade ID (passport or visa at the gate for a visitor pass). at aduana you need to have a copy of your passport, visa front & back and original red paper form (that has the hallogram) with car info. tell them what you need to do. this was also the guys first time at this too so he called mexico city.
he copied the red car form and take my passport/visa copies and left for a bit. he came back with a computer typed form (that we changed our status and want to preserve the bonds) with our info and we signed 2 copies. he stamped both copies and gave us 1. that was it. bonds preserved. done deal. we'll see if and when we ever move back to the us what happens???

the airport aduana's guys comment about they don't handle this leads me to believe everyone, no matter which state, needs to seek out the state interior aduana not the airport.

thanks rolly and eveyone.

What happens if a person changes from the old FM3 to a imigrante-rentista (FM2)? Do they have to do anything special to retain the deposit status as refundable? I know that each location seems to be its' own empire with different interpretation
of the rules & regs.

Would this suggest that we could mail our documentation to DFA regarding the nationalization of our vehicle instead of driving 3 days to the border? I posted this question a couple of weeks ago, but didn't get much feedback.

I believe that vehicles can be nationalized only at the border.

Only at the border and only at some crossings, not all.
