Voice of Mexico

A new blog/website supposedly providing "independent news from the heart of the Americas", and promoted by numero 1 of the US bashers, is now on your friendly neighborhood news stand, that is, if they have an internet cafe.

Of course they have no feed or facebook,

http://voiceofmexico.com

Go ahead Rolly, or someone and convert this into a live link, and maybe get
Mexconnect to move into the 21 century.

*click* url button.
post link info
*re-click* on url button to close.

Doesn't seem that difficult to me.

Anyway, who is the guy behind the "Voice of Mexico"? Why is he "numero 1 USA basher"?

I went back to the initial post and it looked like some Dutch journalist who's lived in Mexico since all of 2009. Must be a quick learn to already be an authority.

Perhaps you should switch to "Advanced Editor" where it clearly has a link symbol and a mouse-over saying...

I've lived here since 2007, but I'm not a journalist, so I guess I´ll need a couple more years to become an authority on Mexico : )!

Is NL The Netherlands? I was born in Philadelphia, PA and grew up outside The City of Brotherly Love in Levittown. I've never been to The Netherlands, though it's been on my list of places to visit for a long time.

Yes, the Netherlands. Sadly those who have not studied geography, often refer to The Netherlands as Holland. That's like calling the US Carolina or Dakota. Yes, there are two provinces in the Netherlands which include the word Holland. They are the provinces of North Holland and South Holland.

But there is no country by the name of Dakota, Carolina or Holland. Rather they are part of the US or the Netherlands.

It is just another blog with a fancier, more serious appearance. Perhaps to fool people into thinking it a serious news periodical. I question both its name, (how pretentious can you get?) and the authors credentials as a competent "voice" on Mexican affairs.

I get the impression it is another blog similar to one of the posters here on MC.

I just realized, johanson, why you thought I might be Dutch. I´m old enough to have been in school when geography was taught as an important component of social studies, and I always loved it. That could be why I know the proper name of los Países Bajos in English.

Who is behind Voice of Mexico?

People from the Dutch newspaper Trouw, various European financial sources, and editors in DF and Guatemala City.

Who is "numero 1 of the US bashers"?

I think that's me. I'm flattered to be thought "numero 1" of anything, though acting as culture and religion editor during the launch of a project aimed at providing independent European journalists and writers with articles from Mexico and Central America is hardly the best way to effectively US bash.

Inquiring minds (like mine) want to know.

Always happy to oblige inquiring minds. Many thanks to Don Gringo Catemaco, for the plug.

Hello johanson,

You have brought back great memories as I got that very lesson (Holland v Netherlands) crossing a small canal bridge near Zwolla, among several other myths I had about the Netherlands before actually visiting there. Oh yes, and the Dutch really do have a wonderful sense of humor, as well as some of the world’s most wonderful food.

Thanks for the memories Pete.

I remember Zwolle very well. They had a public swiming pool there, the ZZ and PC. The Zwolle swimming and Polo Club. And that's where we all went swimming. (Again sorry for posting about things other than "Living, working and retiring in Mexico)

Why don´t you pm people who are interested in Holland versus Netherland, Hollande or Pays Bas or even worst Zwolle and get back to the subject.

It appears that Voice of Mexico is in need of a Spanish language editor. An article by "numero 1" contains an obvious spelling error in what might be the only Spanish word in the whole article. It is sad to see a word used for effect only to be mangled in this way.

It brings into question the credibility of the periodical.

My experience with this start-up project thus far is that the owners have been quite appreciative of suggestions for improving the user interface, content and the like. Additionally, they have expressed an interest in hearing from those who could regularly contribute material, although -- in a venue such as Voice of Mexico -- contributions under a pseudonym or cute "handle" are likely to be deemed less than credible.

Many thanks to Tony, Rolly, Esperanza and David McL for their forbearance with those who have taken to this forum to publicize Voice of Mexico. My involvement is rather limited: those with concerns or "issues" really should address them to the editor@voiceofmexico.com.

Those with concerns or issues with me, should address them to me.

Keep up the good work. Maybe I missed something, but if the critique is about the word which I think is being referred to, it's not a Spanish word anyway, and not in a dictionary. Inserting a hyphen hardly causes it to be "mangled" It's a made up (in Mexico) slang. I enjoyed the article. Carry on! :-)

No hyphen. The word was used at least twice and misspelled each time so no typo either.
