Status of Fiber-Optic Current and Future Availability

I am posting a link to a DSL Reports Article "BBR User Gets Early Peek At Mexico's Telmex FTTH" from August 11, 2011. It details the rollout of fiber-optic by Telmex. At times the article can be a bit technical. Still, interesting reading for those interested in getting higher speed Internet connections. Hopefully, they will soon reach our home in Tlanepantla de Baz in Edomex!

I picked up the article as part of my "Mexico" feed On Google News.

Very interesting. I hope I live long enough to see it at my house.

It's probably not too surprising that this is happening in Chihuahua City. It is the 2nd most 'wired' city in Mexico according to http://chihuahuanfrontier.com/state/news/148-digitalcity.html where 100% of city buildings use an optical fiber network.... 150 sq km.

I'm hoping for Telmex to supply our community just with phones. Maybe a few years later for Internet

Stuck with Telcel at the moment

Give me a consistent 5 to 10 megs down by 2 megs up and I will be happy. But I doubt that we will be seeing fiber optics here along the shores of Lake Chapala for many years. But I'm not an expert on the subject.

There were 2 fiber-optic cables laid from Guad' down the old highway to Melaque 10 years ago.

Where did they end up Manzanillo and/or PV perhaps.
