What's the best route to queretaro from the states

I will be driving down to Queretaro this September from Washington state. I was wondering what's the safest place to cross the boarder right now? We will be hauling a small utility trailer too.

spazhappy I see that you are new to the forum..... welcome.

My first recommendation, although I know you are coming from Wash. state, is to stay in the US and on US roads as far as possible. They are free, good and have 'comforts' that you are used to having at your fingertips.

Second, I know you are just trying to get a comfortable feeling about your upcoming trip. But unfortunately none of us can tell you where 'safe' is. I am sure that, in the last year, thousands of gringos have crossed into and out of Mexico at the various border crossings. I've done it a couple of times myself. But there just are not any crystal balls out there to help us with this situation. What I will suggest with some certainty is that the odds of you having a problem (due to drug cartel related activities) is exceedingly small. Exceedingly. This is a mathematical fact, not a feel-good statement.

I think current 'wisdom' will say for you to cross at either Eagle Pass Texas/Piedras Negras Mexico or at Laredo/Nuevo Laredo..... probably Bridge 2 there. Either crossing will get you to Queretaro and most of it will be on the same roads. I find the small crossing at Piedras Negras very easy to use.... everything is right at one spot with a nice parking lot. From there you'll be using the free (mostly) portion of Highway 57 to Saltillo. It is mostly a two-lane road but is VERY wide, straight and nice... with little traffic. If you go this way, go straight through Monclova and don't take any bypass of it.

If you come through Laredo you'll be on 4-lane; you'll skirt Monterrey on the north side and head towards Saltillo. Just north of Saltillo you'll take Hiway 57 (from above) south on 4-lane towards San Luis Potosi (which you will skirt) and on to Queretaro City.

Have a nice trip. Stay tuned to Mexconnect right up until you leave for any potential 'news' about border crossings.

P.S. There is a "Search Posts" function here.... see it at the top of any page. Click on that and then put something ('border crossing') in the 'search string' area and Search. This will get you all the posts that have the words border crossing in them. Be aware of the 'date' on what you find and be aware that something that was posted a couple of years ago will be there too and may not be correct now or be current information.
