Watching some USA TV channels without an anonymizer

Can't Post | Private Reply
I am happy to report that I have found a website that provides live streaming of several USA broadcast and cable channels. It is not an anonymizer and requires no additional software. It’s free with some commercials, or US$10 per month for no commercials. The quality is sometimes just so-so. I have not observed any buffering delays, but lip sync is often poor.

Some of the channels are ABC, NBC, TLC, TNT, History, Bravo, Current, USA, HBO, CNN, BBC news, and others. Program schedules are not included, but schedules are easily obtained from the online website of each channel.

I wish CBS, PBS and The Food Network were included.

I just did a brief test, and it seems to work well. This is a nice addition to the channels we already have from Sky TV.

I must have tried 4 times yesterday and couldn't get the system to work. I did watch a few 45 second ads. Today, with the new URL, I had trouble with the first three channels I chose, (you know, I watched the 45 second commercial, and no program would show up) then finally, I got a good picture quality recording of an earlier program from MSNBC.

Why do I know it was a recording (which is no problem) because when I turned on a live feed of MSNBC via satellite, the programming is different.

In my test last night, the only one I could check against a live satellite feed was Fox news, and the programming was identical.

I've tried time after time after time and have only been able to watch one TV program on the above suggested URL. No I did not pay the recommended donation. Yes I had the opportunity to subscribe to porno etc which I declined, No big deal. Because I get all of the TV programming and some of the radio stations I want from Shaw Direct.

If I want more, say, US radio stations, which I can not always get going directly to the radio web site when I'm in Mexico, I either use such web-sites as iTunes or my favorite "FREE" App on my iPhone, "TuneIn Radio". This app will also work on your iPod Touch and your iPad 1 or 2 as well and will let me/you listen to almost what-ever radio station I/you want.

Yes it's a little complicated, but there are so many ways to watch or listen to whatever you want, it's not funny

They seem to have more crashes than the average bear.

Here is an exchange between me and RTV on Facebook:

Rolly Brook I am puzzled about where you get some of your feeds. For example, I have noticed that what is on your History Channel is way different from what is on the cable History Channel. And different from the published schedule of the HC.

Ready-TV.com Well some of the channels in our site are not streamed directly by us, and sometimes the person that is streaming a particular channel records the channel and replays a certain program at times :)
    • Rolly Brook It is very frustrating to tune in for a particular show and find some very old thing in its place. I hope you can find a way to stream these channels yourself. You have such an otherwise great service
    • Ready-TV.com Completely understand, and don't worry, we are working on it :) It's just expensive to obtain the necessary equipment do all or more ourselves, but we are working on it :)

Hmmmm.... So far, the three times I've accessed the channel it has always worked. I also just verified that the Bloomberg feed on this site matches the feed on Bloomberg on Sky. I wonder whether some of the difficulties others have had might have anything to do with the ISP or signal strength or? I'm in Morelia using 2 gig service from Telmex. It is 3 for 3 for me--not much of a test, but quite different than some of you have had.

By the way--I find that 28 second ad is easily avoided. There's an X in the upper right hand corner. Click it and it disappears.

I've also surfed through some of the other channels and all the ones I checked seemed to work fine. I especially like having BBC available.

YMMV

I was curious becuase I am very partial to a channel in the line-up. I got nothing on my Mex IP so I thought I would try connecting the VPN service for my IP out of San Francisco. No connection either way. Fortunately I did not have to watch commercials to realize I had no connection of picked channel. It said on both IP's. Cannot find your Internet service, etc etc.
Happy thoughts for those that can see networks they miss. :)
Lived for 35 months in Mexico. I feel like I paid my dues...

Sadly, my earlier comments about having good success are no longer true. Recently, I tried to access NBC several times and nothing happened. I'll keep trying, but my confidence is shaken.

Ready-TV was down most of Tuesday and Wednesday. They are back up tonight (Wednesday).
I talked with one of the guys who said they are trying to get some more reliable servers. They seem to have built this thing on a shoestring and are having growing pains.

Since my last post, various services have come and gone.
At present, the one I am using is http://www.livetvcrew.com/
It's free, and they have a very long list of channels, most of which actually work.
They have a TV Guide-like schedule where you can pick what you want to watch -- very good idea.
Each channel begins with a 30 second ad.
