National Geographic Photos and photographers

An exhibition of photos that looks interesting is currently on view at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington DC:

National Geographic photos have the power to change lives - and no prizes for guessing which of the four pictures in the short article on mywonderfulworld.org did that in my case!

The piece about the exhibition jogged my memory that there was a time (in the 1970s? or 80s?) when INAH apparently refused to allow any Nat. Geog. photographers anywhere near its sites, in retaliation (if memory serves) for some damage they had done.

I've been trying to find an online account of the INAH/NG argument to pin down the dates and details, but have so far failed to do so. I'm hoping that the collective MexConnect memory and "research institute" can help! Any ideas?
