With Telcel's Amigo plan, is there a charge for incoming calls?

I am particularly wondering about incoming calls from USA.

That's a good question. I have heard, but do not know from experience, that all incoming calls on your Telcel phone are free of charge to you to receive.
But then again, a friend told me that if you are travelling and in a roaming area, you are charged for incoming calls. As a result, when they are out of town, they won't anwer their phone.
I have been attempting to find this info on the Telcel webage but haven't been successful.

It depends on how the caller dials. It they dial conventional USA dialing pattern 011-52-123-456-7890, both the caller AND the receiving cell phone will incur charges. However, if you instruct callers to call your cell using the following dialing pattern, the caller pay all charges & none are charged against your Mexican cell phone: 011-52-1-123-456-7890. The added "1"between country code & area code directs all charges to the call originator.

All incoming calls are toll free unless you are roaming then you pay a roaming fee. You won't find this information on the Telcel site. You have to go into a Telcel office and ask them for rates.

I thought that you HAVE to have to "1" in there, else the call won't go through. Of course, the message you get when you don't put in the "1" is in Spanish and I simply hang up and recall the number with the "1".

I also think the 1 is necessary to reach a Mexican cell phone from another country.

Yes! When I use Skype to call any cellfone in Mexico, I have to use the "1".

Ever noticed how many Mexicans stand around texting? It's because it is way cheaper to text using a pay card than using voice. \

I know you are thinking "plan" because NOB citizens are sort of trained(via media marketing) for that. Always look for alternatives to voice calls in Mexico. Sr. Slim wants your money...

I had a Blackberry and the plan for BB was 500 pesos a month. When I changed cellphones, I dropped the BB monthly plan and continued to pay the 500 pesos per month for 3gB (BAT30) of data. A few months ago, I started to monitor my usage and found that I was only using around 100mB a month! I had a large amount of pesos in "saldo regalos" and decided to go on demand, i.e., let Telcel deduct my usage from my saldo. At that time Telcel was charging 2 pesos per mB (now it is 1 peso per mB). My cost was under 6 pesos a day or 180 pesos a month. I still have a lot of regalo to work through and when it is used up, I opt for either the BAT50 or BAT100 paquete.
