Insurance for our Mexican Plated Truck

Can't Post | Private Reply
When we chose to nationalize our truck this month, I forgot that Lewis and Lewis will only insurance foreign plated vehicles in Mexico, soooo I am looking for recommendations for Mexican Insurance.
Thanks in advance,
Isabel

This is the company we use. We like our agent, and know he would be right there to help us out if we ever had a claim.

You might wish to read the following before jumping at the recommendation:

I wasn't posting so that someone would "jump" at any recommendation. I was simply sharing what insurance company we use for our Mexican plated vehicle. We have complete confidence in our particular QUALITAS broker, who is run off his feet with business here in Mazatlan, for his proven reputation.

ANY insurance company will deny a claim if things aren't in order, so amongst other things, make very sure to list any possible additional drivers on the policy. If your spouse is Mexican and is driving your foreign plated car, also keep a copy of the Aduana wording in the glove box.

My advice is to NOT buy insurance on the internet if living in Mexico. Building relationships here is extremely important, and your insurance guy is no exception. Get to know him. If you get into an accident, you will be very thankful you made the effort.

That's great advice, I'm thinking we should find an agent in Puerto Vallarta? We just bought private medical insurance, maybe the same agent can recommend someone who handles auto insurance.
Thanks,
Holly

Maybe the agent who handles your medical insurance also handles automotive. Ours does. We recently consolidated all of it with him. The insurance company is AXA.

I agree with Marlene. Find an agent with a good reputation who can be your advocate if and when the time comes. We hope we have. My feeling is that's probably even more important as a foreigner in Mexico.

I can add to this that our local AXA agent, who I think is also Tashby's agent, says his company will not insure vehicles that have been nationalized - there have been too many problems in the past with stolen vehicles.

I had Qualitis for my home owners insurance when hurricane Wilma hit. The company gave me a hard time for months i yelled and screamed. Threatened to trash them all over the internet. i called every day yelling called them banditos and threatened to come to their offices and picket them. Finally I guess they got tired of me and paid up. P.S. right after the storm they told everyone they were out of the home owners insurance business. And everyone had to get another insurer. I called Lewis and Lewis looking for Auto insurance they said they are still working with Qualitis. I told them I would not trust that co. as far as I can throw them.

A friend of mine had the same experience with Qualitas dropping homeowners' with no warning after a hurricane. She now insures house and car with Atlas.

Based on a recommendation from a Mexican friend, I use Grupa Inbursa for my car (liability only), but I haven't had a claim so far.
