Moisheh, please re-read #5 in that list. That translates to: "If you are a foreigner with immigration status of rentista or no inmigrante, the validity of your permit [the temporary import sticker for your car] is equal to the validity of your immigration status, its extensions, amplifications, and other extensions, always and whenever those continue to be valid. Take into account that you need to present notice to the customs authorities with 15 days following the authorization of an extension, amplification, other extension, or change of immigration status, otherwise the effect will be that your permit will no longer be valid." In addition, in #2 the regulation also reads that if you pay with a credit card or with cash, "Si no retornas tu vehículo antes del vencimiento del permiso, esta garantía se hará efectiva, aún y cuando el pago lo hayas efectuado con tarjeta de crédito." What that means is that if you fail to remove your vehicle from Mexico when and if your temporary vehicle permit expires, you will be charged (according to the table in #2) the fee, even if you have paid with a credit card. This is no different from the regulation as it has been written for at least 12 years. If I understand the 'new' regulations correctly, the only things that have changed are (one) the actual amount of the fees (including the fee for the temporary import sticker itself) when and if they are charged and (two) the 15-day period during which you have to report extensions and/or changes of immigration status to the aduana. http://www.mexicocooks.typepad.com
