Mazatlán is lobbying hard to get a crack at hosting the first Tianguis outside of Acapulco. Tianguis Turistico (the internationally famous Mexico tourism fair) will be rotated around the country, after being held in Acapulco for 36 years. As a result of that announcement, several cities are busily promoting themselves (including Acapulco fighting to keep the tradition), showcasing their facilities and amenities, to the powers that be. Mazatlan just happens to have a brand new convention center and some pretty spiffy new accommodations all set for such an important occasion!
