ROBERTO'S Restaurant Review in Ajijic

Five of us ate at Roberto's restaurant on Friday night April 29. They brought Carrot fritters and two kinds of fresh bread with 3 spreads to the table. Then we ordered drinks, one ordered a bottle of wine while I had my usual soft drink. They gave us plenty of time to chat before the dinner orders were taken. Everyone but myself had the Chile Poblano soup. I opted for the salad dressed with raspberry vinegarette. It is very good.

One person ordered the Sea Bass Elegante encrusted with pistachio nuts, one ordered another type of fish, one ordered the Jersey Shore Platter with Scallops, calamari and white fish, french fries and cole slaw. I ordered the Pork Loin with apple confit over mashed potatoes with glazed carrots for a veggie. One ordered the Lamb Loin with gravy over mashed potatoes with carrots. The person who ordered the Lamb said it was excellent. He eats out daily, orders Lamb a lot and knows his food. My Pork Loin dinner was excellent and very tender. Everyone liked their meals.

We highly recommend Roberto's restaurant.

Food quality and quantity: Excellent
Service: Excellent
Prices: Average for Ajijic
Ambiance: Very nice
Cleanliness: Very good

How was the sea bass? Not something you see too often, and it sounds like an interesting preparation. Was it a special or is it usually available (I haven't been to Roberto's in awhile.). What was the price?

We have often had sea bass at Roberto's, prepared in different ways.......and it's always good. Haven't tried the current offering as yet.

You too can buy frozen sea bass at Costco, the same place Bobby gets it.

Y'know what? When I order fish, I don't ask for its pedigree. I sniff it and if it passes, I eat it. Roberto's does a good job of preparing in, IMHO.

Does Roberto still entertain? He plays acoustic guitar.

We used to buy sea bass from a local vendor who had a store on the carretera just west of Colon and another store across from the plaza. It has been seven years since we lived there so I have no idea if he is still in business but his product was always fresh and very reasonably priced so I can't imagine him not being in business. Sea bass, flounder and snapper were awesome.

We have not been able to find any sea bass around the various stores....Sam's - Soriana - Walmart....that is not originally from China! This is also true of many types of seafood. Cuidado!!
