Need to vent - CFE

Can't Post | Private Reply
My CFE bill, which used to be 200 pesos/month until my sister-in-law hooked up her house to our electricty at which time it went to 600 pesos/month. Well she has disconnected and this month the bill was 900 pesos. My brother-in-law is paying 200/month. I am seriously thinking about disconnecting and using candles. Seriously, how else can you get this to stop? My father in law, who is always present, says no one comes to read the meter, ever. Just needed to vent.

Well, why don't you read the meter and see if there is a mistake? Maybe you were being undercharged in the past and it finally caught up to you.

2 x 200 = 600 because the rate increases with use. Put a 2nd meter on the 2nd house then 2 x 200 = 400 again. Don't know about the 900 math.

The old 2 meter trick doesn't work any more unless you have an obvious 2nd residence in the compound. I have 2 meters, they just add them together to be sure I'm in the DAC rates. I'd be glad to trade your 900 for my 4,000p bill.

Do really mean "per month" or are you referring to the normal, 2 month billing period?

Our 2 month bill went from about 180 to 200 pesos to 360—double— after we put in a 15 cubic foot chest freezer. I never expected that it wouldn'r go up. So, now we are paying approx $31 USD a month. At least we don't need air conditioning here.

Thanks for all the good replies, questions, and suggestions. My bill is for two months. I tried arguing and they told me I don't know how to read the meter. Guess I'm just too ignorant. I've checked and my neighbors with old houses and fairly good sized families are paying 200 pesos. I've got one of the oldest houses- is of tejas and adobe. When we remodeled the contractor thought we were crazy not to tear it down. I've been distracted lately with another calamity regarding the street - for another thread.

Once CFE misread my meter and on the back of the bill are meter dials for recording your current meter reading. I recorded the current reading and went down to CFE and said that they misread the meter. No problem, they recalculated the bill based on my reading. The next bill reflected the correct meter reading. Did you do this?

I had the same experience as Joaquinx when they mis-read my meter once. They sent someone to verify my reading, then corrected the billing.

Since your home is old, have you had the wiring checked? My electrician told me that my neighbor's bad wiring is what makes her bill higher than mine, despite the fact that I have a larger house with more "stuff".

Anyone know whether there is a difference in usage and charges between meters using 1 hilo or 2 hilos on a DAC rate?

Your tarifa is based on consumtion. DAC is "Domesticas de alto Consumo"

See: http://tinyurl.com/tarifas-cfe for more information and http://tinyurl.com/tarifas-cfe-app

CFE does a lot of estimates, they actually can see in their system what the estimate is versus the real reading.I do not think it is a mistake, I just went through the same thing and they showed me how in their system they keep both sets of books. They also told me that eventually the two system are in sink, the problem is that I probably will no live to see it since they carries the last mistake for a year!
Make a picture the day they read the meter or a day or so afterwards and compare that to what your bill says. Go to the office and ask them to adjust the bill which they will not do if you have already paid.
A simple reading of the meter now should give you an idea if the meter is way off.
One year my bill more than triple aroud Christmas, CFE told me the problem must have been the Christmas lights, I told them it was a good answer but I did not have Christmas lights and I was not even there one month out of the two....
Good luck!

I'm responding to Vichy but thanks to all who had great suggestions. This is the best site for practical information. We're in Europe for the summer months so I went ahead and disconnected the electricity. I'm a little concerned about the young man who watches our house - now he can only go during the day. That's my only worry. After a few months we will re-connect with a new account number. Maybe I am wrong but I think there are people in the nearby city living off our account! Not any more! This all happened at the same time they are widening the street - wanted 3 meters but we gave them only 1 meter of property. I think that is fair but we'll see what it looks like when we get back. My sister-in-law is watching over things and if it is at all possible she is cheaper and meaner than me so I feel relatively good.
