joaquinx - Shame on you for your post! Time for you to read my restaurant reviews and look at he dates they were posted. FYI, you'll find that our Dinner Group dines out twice a month at 10 different restaurants. I report on what each person had. If you don't like my posts don't read them or you can do your own restaurant reviews.

DavidHF - Eat ANYWHERE you like even at Lakeside's SHITTY restaurants where I wouldn't take my dog. There are 10 times more crappy restaurants at Lakeside than good ones.

Please, John, don't stop posting your 'reviews.'. Really.

You are the best source around for those few occasions when I have guests who are wary of travel or a picky eaters. If we follow your advice precisely, we can be assured that the meals will be lacking any creativity, spice or surprises. In other words, boring, monotonous and dull.

But some people like to eat that way. No need to get defensive, John.

" we can be assured that the meals will be lacking any creativity, spice or surprises. In other words, boring, monotonous and dull."

Please help me out here by listing your favorite local restaurants. I have a self-proclaimed "foodie" friend from SMA coming to visit next month and I want her palate to be delighted since she has often hosted us to her favorite restaurants in San Miguel.
Please tell me your favorite dishes at these places, if you will.

Since she's not the kind of person who wants a stand-up meal under a blue tarp, please just give me the names of the ones with sit-down facilities.

Since the following restaurants are on John's recommended list.......we can't take her to Jardin de Ninette, Hole in One, Laurent, Roberto's or Tabarka and surely not to Ricky's Thai, can we?

BTW, I do like Mexican food, but only when it's flavor and quality of basic ingredients do not require the addition of fire breathing salsa to be palatable, so would you please include such high end Mexican restaurants on your list. My friend likes it too......with added jalapenos and hot salsas on occasion.

Please permit me a very slight chuckle here, but I really do have a good friend coming with expectations beyond boring and dull.

better a jerk than a bore. john also has his lists on my board but as soon as posters show pictures with their review, they will be eliminated.
it's a fair service he provides but it is limited and quit repetitive and only covers ajijic which contrary to popular belief is not the centre of the universe around here merely because it's full of ferners.
having said that we do go to the ghetto once in a while to dine.
a new restaurant called gossips is interesting because it's kenyan/louisiana fusion.
too weird fer some eh!

I think TOB does a pretty good job with restaurant reviews and comments (especially since John got banned.)

I think we're talking about the same TOB, so, thinking I might have missed something, I went over there and checked their last four or five pages. Usually somebody said they went to ..............and liked it. Or didn't. Also usually, they didn't describe what they ate, nor where it was (if not prompted), even less how much it cost. I'm no cheapskate, but it would be nice to know if I'm heading out to a recommended lunch at 60 pesos, or 160: plus, it would be nice to know if anything comes with it.......soup, salad, bread basket etc.

I can't say they improved their La Cocina section by banning the Crusty One. On the other hand, John's lists are on at least two or three other boards, so no one need do without them. (grin) I still say.......he means well and nobody else seems to get up the energy to provide another list of options, do they? Including me and thee.

Last year a "sunbird" named Jeanette posted reviews of many lakeside restaurants TOB. They were well written and very informative. She'll be back lakeside soon and hopefully resume posting her reviews.

Gringal - Don't take her to Hole in One, Laurent or Ninette where those chefs are creative, have the BEST food and take pride in what they present on the plate. She'll be nissing out on the 3 BEST restaurants at Lakeside. Take her to the other "average" restaurants and she'll not be impressed.

Have you taken a look lately, TOB has SHIT for restaurant reviews!!! Even jeanettes reviews sucked.

At least you get an honest opinion from OUR Dinner Group. Not just my opinion.

I think I'll keep her imprisoned at home and feed her spaghetti and garlic bread.

If I give her enough good red wine and we sit up on our mirador........she may not want to leave at all. LOL

John - couldn't you be a little more polite. Is it really necessary to tell us that TOB has restaurant reviews that are shit - is that because they are by someone other than you? Most of us find them useful.

Jeanette's restaurant review did not suck - but again, they were by someone other than you - is that your overall problem?
