Guadalajara airport to Lake Chapala area Taxi

Can't Post | Private Reply
Hi-
We will be arriving at the airport in Guadalajara and we need to take a taxi to our Inn where we will be staying in the Lake Chapala area. I have read that some taxi's are not safe, that they are not really taxi drivers. How can I be sure that I get a real taxi driver and the trip from the airport to Chapala is uneventfully safe?

Thanks

The taxis from the airport are all authorized vehicles and you should have no problems at all. You buy your taxi ticket at a booth by the exit over from arrivals, walk outside and you will be directed to the next taxi. Just have directions to your inn in Spanish for the driver - they do not necessarily know where all the hotels etc. are located.

Not sure where you have been getting this information but someone doesn't necessarily know of what they speak. Actually, after arrival at the Guadalajara airport, you are basically given one choice of taxis. Upon exiting the arrival area, you will see a booth/kiosk that sell you the ticket for your taxi ride with the only taxis licensed to pick up at the airport. They will ask you when you want to go and you will pay a set amount to your destination.

It is suggested that you have directions written in Spanish if you do not have the ability to direct the taxi to your desired destination. If you are not used to driving habits in MX, you may receive a bit of a thrill during your ride.

While tipping is a controversial topic: it is our habit to tip the driver, especially if he is helpful with luggage and provides us with a drive without too many thrills. YMMV

The only such warnings about taxis that I've seen are not to take street taxis in D.F. I suppose I would include the border cities like Juarez and Nvo Laredo in that as well. But I haven't heard of any issues anywhere about taxis at airport or hotel queues.
