Home Owners Insurance

Does anyone know of a Mexican Insurance company that is issuing home owners policies ?

I had a Atlas1 Family policy with Seguros Atlas and my policy that was up for renewal in April will not be renewed due to some kind of moratorium that was imposed in February 2011.

Let me know what you are doing in Jalisco ?

While living in Jalisco my wife and I met a terrific insurance agent. He works for AXA. We now live in Morelia, but he is still our agent, and AXA does write homeowners insurance--we have a policy from them.

The agent's name is Jesús Tejeda, and you can reach him at (33) 3563 1300. By the way, he is quite adept in English as well as Spanish.

From virtually every forum that I check on, this agent seems to have the best reputation. He can also be reached at his email: jtejeda@hotmail.com
Never have insured with him but he seems to have earned a very high satisfaction rating by his insured!

Try Mariners Insurance, Puerto Vallarta. They have home, auto as well as medical insurance coverage. I have never had a claim, touch wood, so I cannot speak to their claims record, but the sales agents are good. I found LLoyds to be very unresponsive when I was looking for some coverage- fyi.

Mariners is very expensive. Look for a Mapfre Tepeyac agent. Their policies are very similar to one you would find NOB. They give you the policy in both English and Spanish. The true test of any insurance is when you have a claim. Fortunately we have not had any claims!

I have no idea what is going on with Seguros Atlas, my agent indicated that policies were not being renewed or new ones sold.

The telephone number on my policy is: (55) 9177-5000 in Mexico City.

I have spoken to Jesus for a quote.

salto_jorge, I'm also curious about more definitive details on what your agent told you....my home & vehicles are insured with Atlas Seguro. I contacted my agent based on the information you posted & she responded:

"In response to your email, we have already talked with the company and we do not have any problems in the State with regard to the question you made to us, either with your premium. Everything is ok.

On the other hand (my agent) would like to know about the person which posted (sic) that information, so she can see what it is all about & try to help in that case.

Thanks again and I look forward to your comments."

I'm wondering if it might have been a state issue rather than a blanket company-wide issue, since my agent's assistant did make reference to "State", which in my case would be Baja Sur.

The phone number on my Atlas Seguro policy seems to be out of service, I tried calling it several times over the course of one week. My previous policy was purchased from a company and agent with an office in Calexico, California that has been in the insurance business for many years.

Since then, I have spoken to and emailed Jesus Tejeda Mejorad in English and purchased a policy from AXA.

Thank you for your response....ignore the PM which you must have received at the same instant you posted your response here. Great, but spooky timing!
